Multi-Entity Accountant - 18 Month Contract

Job summary

Valor Distributions, Canada’s vape wholesale expert based in Ontario, seeks an experienced Accountant to support multiple entities with month-end, close, reporting, and tax-related accounting. The role requires meticulous multi-entity management, audit coordination, and cross-functional collaboration in a fast-paced environment.

You will handle inventory costing, intercompany reconciliations, and year-end work papers, while communicating findings in English during monthly meetings.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field.
• Full-cycle accounting experience.
• Strong knowledge of month-end and year-end close processes.
• Solid understanding of accrual accounting, reconciliations, inventory accounting, and financial reporting.
• Experience supporting external audits and preparing working papers.
• Experience with GST/HST, PST, Excise tax, and Corporate tax-related accounting
• Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
• Experience with Xero and CaseWare and Taxprep is preferred.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage multiple deadlines.
• Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Manage month-end and quarter-end closing activities for multiple entities.
• Prepare and review journal entries, accruals, reclassifications, and other period-end adjustments.
• Perform balance sheet and income statement reconciliations.
• Review financial results for completeness and accuracy.
• Investigate and resolve unusual balances, variances, and reconciling items.
• Prepare supporting schedules and working papers for period-end reporting.
• Review financial statements, identify and resolve questions with the foreign entity, and clearly present findings and questions during monthly virtual meetings in English.
• Prepare recurring financial and management reports.
• Perform P&L and balance sheet variance analysis.
• Monitor and reconcile key balance sheet accounts.
• Prepare intercompany reconciliation and settlement schedules.
• Support management with financial analysis and reporting as required.
• Perform inventory and COGS reconciliations between accounting and inventory systems.
• Investigate inventory and costing variances and prepare necessary adjustments.
• Prepare excise tax calculations and related reconciliations.
• Maintain supporting schedules for indirect taxes, including GST/HST and PST.
• Assist with corporate tax-related schedules and supporting documentation.
• Assist with year-end close and preparation of year-end working papers and T2.
• Prepare supporting schedules and documentation requested by external auditors.
• Respond to audit inquiries and follow up on outstanding audit items.
• Coordinate with internal departments to obtain supporting information.
• Assist with corporate tax filings and other year-end reporting requirements.
• Assist with day-to-day accounting questions and transaction reviews.
• Work with Internal Audit, Operations, Sales, Logistics, and other departments to resolve accounting issues.
• Support process improvements and strengthen accounting controls and procedures.
• Assist with special projects and other accounting-related tasks as assigned.
