Magellan Aerospace, a global aerospace leader, is seeking a Manager of Occupational Health and Safety for the Rockwood Propellant Plant. You will guide health and safety programs, lead the Emergency Response Team, and ensure regulatory compliance while driving continuous improvement.

You will oversee safety staff, collaborate with engineering and maintenance, and develop training and hazard control measures to safeguard workers and operations.

Qualifications

• Diploma or degree in Occupational Health & Safety or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Standard First Aid/CPR certification.
• Minimum of 3 years’ experience in Health & Safety management.
• Strong knowledge of Health & Safety processes, procedures, methodologies, and applicable legislation/regulations.

Position Summary

The Manager, Occupational Health and Safety at our Rockwood Propellant Plant serves as the plant’s management representative for Health & Safety, providing guidance, driving programs, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. This role leads the Emergency Response Team, directs Health & Safety staff, supports training and environmental operations, and contributes to divisional strategic planning and continuous improvement of the Health & Safety management system.

• Designs, implements and administers health and safety program for the Rockwood Propellant Plant.
• Ensures internal Health & Safety KPI’s, such as lost time injury rates and near‑miss occurrences, are in place and reviewed to monitor and measure overall performance.
• Identifies and implement corrective actions required to overcome potential deficiencies.
• Has knowledge of ISO 45001 and evaluate Health & Safety management system effectiveness, recommend improvements, and report outcomes to Senior Management.
• Develops and implements fire and emergency management plans. Ensure plans are appropriately communicated and necessary support training plans are implemented.
• Manages and assist the company’s laser safety officers and x‑ray safety officer in administering the laser and x‑ray safety program for company processes involving lasers and -x‑rays.
• Assists in maintaining the Companies Safety Management System in Compliance with Safe Work Certified Requirements, through Made safe.
• Maintains and monitor the Rockwood Plant’s internal, external, and corporate safety audits.
• Monitors and audits the Company’s compliance with applicable safety, health, fire, and workplace hazardous products legislation/regulations and recommends appropriate actions to ensure compliance.
• Conducts and reviews hazard assessments, providing recommendations based on findings, and develops, reviews, and revises job hazard analysis and safe work procedures.
• Collaborates with Union and various departments within Magellan, including engineering, production, and maintenance to meet Magellan’s safety objectives.

Position Requirements

• Diploma or degree in Occupational Health & Safety or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Standard First Aid/CPR certification.
• Minimum of 3 years’ experience in Health & Safety management.
• Strong knowledge of Health & Safety processes, procedures, methodologies, and applicable legislation/regulations, including fire codes, workplace hazardous product legislation, and transportation of dangerous goods legislation.
• Experience with emergency response procedures, first aid, and hazard recognition, with the ability to recommend corrective measures.
• Experience developing and delivering Health & Safety training programs.
• Familiarity with investigative methods, including root cause analysis and corrective action.
• Previous experience in aerospace manufacturing and/or a unionized workplace is an asset.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel.
• Strong time management and prioritization skills.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, analytical, time management, and prioritization skills.
• Ability to work efficiently both independently and within a team environment.
