This role is responsible for evaluating residential mortgage applications, ensuring they meet all lending guidelines, and making final decisions on approval or decline. The successful candidate will have strong analytical and communication skills, a keen eye for detail, and a commitment to upholding high lending standards.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate mortgage applications, verify supporting documentation, and ensure accuracy of information in the loan system.
• Make approval or decline decisions on applications, adhering to established policies and procedures.
• Document clear and complete decision notes and conditions for approved applications.
• Collaborate effectively with internal and external partners throughout the mortgage process.
• Escalate credit exceptions and suspicious activity to management.
• Collect and follow up on all required documents to meet mortgage commitment conditions.
• Review and verify the accuracy of all required documents according to internal policies.
• Perform miscellaneous duties or participate in projects as assigned.

Qualifications

• University degree or college diploma in a relevant field.
• Minimum 1+ year of underwriting experience in personal lending at a Canadian financial institution.
• Prior residential mortgage underwriting experience strongly preferred.
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills (written and verbal).
• Strong attention to detail and ability to manage time effectively.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel).
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
• Experience working in a hybrid work environment is a plus.
