What You’ll Do
As the Mobile Equipment Specialist, you will be responsible for the training and active coaching of MPU operators, providing mechanical support, troubleshooting applicable assets, traveling to all sites within Newfoundland Wholly Owned to support mobile equipment operations, and operating equipment as needed. Other duties include:
- Ensures that mobile explosive mixing/pumping units are kept in top working condition and compliant with all relevant Canadian safety regulations.
- Responsible for coaching new and existing employees to ensure all work standards, policies, and procedures are adhered to.
- Support and perform preventative maintenance and troubleshooting on heavy trucks and their specialized explosive pumping systems.
- Quickly identify and resolve equipment faults or breakdowns in both mobile and static explosive delivery units.
- Ensure all repairs are done efficiently to minimize downtime while maintaining safety.
- Strictly follow safe work procedures in an explosive environment.
- Verify that trucks are free of explosive materials and properly decontaminated before performing maintenance, to prevent fire or accidental detonation.
- Maintain detailed maintenance records, work orders, and inspection checklists for each vehicle.
- Ensure documentation meets regulatory and company standards (e.g. recording any work on safety-critical systems, logging inspections required by National Safety Code or provincial regulations).
- Support the development of new hires by providing active coaching and field level audits against Dyno Nobel Operating standards.
- Support and assist the development of key operating instructions relative to the applicable Mobile equipment.
- Travel to all sites throughout the NL WO to conduct competency audits of operators.
What We're Looking For
- Valid driver’s license (Class 3 with air brake endorsement required; Class 1 with air preferred) to operate heavy trucks as needed.
- Journeyperson certification as a Heavy Duty Equipment Technician or Truck and Transport Mechanic would be considered an asset.
- 3+ years of experience in heavy truck or heavy equipment maintenance, with strong skills in diesel engine repair, hydraulic systems, and electrical troubleshooting on large mobile equipment.
- Experience working on mining or industrial sites, or on bulk explosives trucks/equipment, is highly valued (e.g. 2+ years in a bulk explosives environment preferred).
- Current WHMIS certification and Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) training are required, to ensure proper handling of hazardous materials and explosives.
- Must have completed or be willing to complete site-specific mine safety training and explosives safety orientation (in accordance with the Explosives Regulations and mine policies).
