Job summary

Hatch is seeking an Intermediate Mechanical Engineer to join its Mining Infrastructure Engineering team. The role focuses on mechanical and piping design across surface and underground mining projects, from concept studies through to execution, with opportunities to contribute to shafts, material handling, and process facilities.

The candidate should have 5–7 years of post-graduate experience, strong communication skills, and a background in mining or industrial environments.

Qualifications

• 5-7 years of post-graduate experience in engineering consulting, EPCM, mining, or industrial environments.
• Excellent communication skills and ambition to grow into lead mechanical engineering roles.
• Registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with PEO or provincial equivalent would be advantageous.
• BSc/BEng degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university.
• Mechanical system design experience, preferably in mining or industrial environments.
• Working knowledge of fluid simulation tools such as FluidFlow, AFT Fathom, or Flownex is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Developing mechanical design basis and criteria.
• Developing technical specifications.
• Developing mechanical and piping designs from Concept Phase through to Execution.
• Developing technical discipline documentation for inquiry and contract placement purposes (Scope of Work, MTOs).
• Undertaking mechanical and piping analysis and design calculations; compiling design reports.
• Reviewing local and international mechanical and piping codes (e.g., ASME B31.3).
• Guiding mechanical/piping designers with input and development of 3D models; participating in 3D model reviews.
• Reviewing mechanical and piping drawings thoroughly.
• Co-ordinating intra-discipline and inter-discipline reviews.
• Participating in client meetings and risk reviews (HAZiD, HAZOP, Constructability).
• Ensuring alignment with project stages from Concept to Execution.
