Job summary

Hatch is seeking a motivated Electrical Engineer to join our Mining Infrastructure Engineering team in Canada. The role involves designing, assessing, and delivering electrical systems for surface and underground mining projects across North America and abroad.

You will lead multidisciplinary teams, contribute to concepts, feasibility studies, detail design, and commissioning, and mentor engineers while ensuring safety and quality.

Qualifications

• Engineering degree and P.E.O. certification is required.
• 5–7 years of post-graduate experience in EPCM/mining environments.
• Strong communication and collaboration across multidisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

• Leads a team of Electrical Engineers, Designers and CAD personnel in mining projects.
• Provides technical leadership and guidance for the electrical team.
• Mentor engineers-in-training and designers.
• Prepare and check calculations as required.
• Prepare electrical equipment specification packages.
• Check vendor drawings for compliance with specifications.
• Prepares design, supply, construction and installation specifications.
• Develop conceptual designs, studies, reports and proposals.
• Ensure effective communication within project teams and with client engineers.
• Track project metrics.
• Provide input to proposals.
• Participate in client meetings.
• Participate in risk reviews and site visits.

We are seeking a motivated and technically capable Electrical Engineer to join our Mining Infrastructure Engineering team. This role entails working with diverse teams, both locally, and abroad.

The successful candidate will contribute to design, assessment, development, and delivery of surface and underground mining-related infrastructure across all project phases, including Concept Studies, Pre-Feasibility Studies (PFS), Feasibility Studies (FS), Execution (Detail Design), Construction Support and Commissioning.

Working within multidisciplinary teams, the engineer will support the design and delivery of electrical systems associated with shafts, underground mining infrastructure, materials handling systems, process plants, pumping systems, ventilation systems, refrigeration facilities, workshops, and associated mine infrastructure

Ideal Candidate Profile

An electrical engineer who combines strong technical design capability with 5 to 7 years of post-graduate practical project experience within an engineering consulting, EPCM, mining house, contractor, or industrial environment. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, and the ambition to grow into a lead electrical engineering role through participation in complex surface and underground mining projects across North America and internationally.

Responsibilities

• Leads a team of Electrical Engineers, Designers and CAD personnel in the successful execution of electrical engineering and design for mining projects within budget and on schedule
• Provides technical leadership and guidance for the electrical team
• Mentor engineers-in-training and designers
• Prepare and check calculations as required
• Prepare electrical equipment specification packages
• Check vendor drawings and data for compliance with specifications
• Prepares detailed design, supply, construction and installation specifications
• Develop conceptual designs, studies, reports and proposals
• Ensures effective communication within project teams and with client engineers
• Track project metrics
• Provide input to proposals
• Participate in client meetings
• Participate in Risk reviews (HAZiD, HAZOP, Constructability Reviews and Risk Assessments)
• Visit project sites and other Hatch design offices for project related activities as required

Qualifications

• Engineer with 5-7 years of relevant experience – preferably in an EPCM environment for industrial projects in utilities and/or metals
• Engineering degree and registered as a Professional Engineer with the P.E.O or another Canadian Professional Engineering Association
• Good oral and written communication skills
• Knowledge of industry, regulatory codes and standards
• Proficient with the following electrical design tools and software: SPEL, ETAP, SKM, EasyPower and ASPEN
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively within multi disciplinary teams

Base salary range: $86,000 - $136,000
