Mine Trainer – Eagle River Mine, Near Wawa, ON

Wesdome is a Canadian-focused gold producer with two high-grade underground assets: the Eagle River mine in Ontario and the Kiena mine in Québec. The company’s primary goal is to responsibly leverage its operating platform and high-quality exploration pipeline to build a growing value-driven gold producer.

About The Opportunity

The Mine Trainer will demonstrate leadership, develop, prepare, and update training materials to ensure operators receive adequate training in their specific work tasks and to evaluate competency in all modules under the MLTSD program #770010 (underground hard rock miner common core). He/she will provide training in both a classroom environment and underground, monitor and review operator activity to ensure compliance with best practices, and, in cooperation with the Mine Captain and Supervisors, identify and prioritize training needs. The successful candidate will also comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and all applicable regulations to protect the safety of employees and contribute to the efficient operation of the mine.

About You

You are a respected mining professional with extensive hands‑on experience and a passion for developing people and promoting safe work practices. With a strong understanding of Ontario mining legislation and health and safety systems, you lead by example through a visible field presence, effective coaching, and practical, learner‑focused training.

Position Responsibilities, Accountabilities, and Job Duties
  • Provide support to the mine by maintaining a visible field presence through workplace inspections and job observations.
  • Measure and evaluate trainee performance by assigning projects, conducting practice sessions, and obtaining feedback from supervisors.
  • Assess operators to ensure training is tailored to their learning style.
  • Provide follow‑up on all training facets by issuing evaluations and maintaining frequent contact with supervisors.
  • Keep training records for all personnel up to date and accurate.
  • Assist in coaching, mentoring, and implementing the HS&E programs in the field.
  • Regularly review applicable legislation and standards to ensure compliance.
  • Audit the Safety Management System for compliance and updates and align it with company policies and procedures.
  • Participate and assist supervisors, foreman, and JHSC in investigating incidents to determine root causes and corrective actions.
  • Serve as the designated Employer Representative.
  • Conduct site/mine inductions.
  • Contribute to the department’s continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Excel.
  • Reliable with strong ethics and discretion.
  • Excellent comprehension of Reg. 854 / OH&S Act, Ontario.
  • Experience in a health and safety position.
  • Prior supervisory and train‑the‑trainer experience.
  • Minimum 10+ years of mining experience.
  • Mine Rescue / ERT experience is considered an asset.
  • Possession of various specialty modules.
  • Ability to apply risk assessments to company operations.
  • Knowledge of SOP, policy, program revisions, and process reviews.
  • Excellent incident investigation and analytical skills.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and conflict‑resolution skills.
  • Ability to perform under stressful conditions.
  • Attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
  • Team‑oriented with a safety focus.
Working Conditions / Schedule
  • Location: Eagle River Mine, Near Wawa, ON (Mine Site)
  • Shift: 12‑hour shifts, 7 days on / 7 days off
  • Type of Hire: Permanent, Full‑Time
  • Travel: Required based on business needs
  • Physical Requirements: Manual dexterity, reading, walking, standing, sitting, reaching, kneeling, repetitive motions, stooping, balancing, pushing, pulling, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
