Job summary

Eaton’s Milton site is seeking a Maintenance Technician - Controls & Automation to support automated sheet-metal fabrication lines and material-handling systems such as fiber laser, punching/shearing, panel-bender and robotic systems.

You will troubleshoot PLC/HMI/CNC/VFD faults, perform preventive maintenance and collaborate with Operations, Engineering and OEM teams to improve uptime and equipment capability.

Qualifications

• Post-secondary diploma/certificate/degree in electromechanical engineering technology, industrial automation, electrical technology, mechanical technology, millwright studies or related discipline.
• Minimum 5 years of industrial maintenance experience in an automated manufacturing environment.
• Ontario Certificate of Qualification as an Industrial Electrician (442A) and/or Industrial Mechanic Millwright (433A), or active apprenticeship with relevant experience.
• Direct experience with sheet metal fabrication equipment, automated storage/retrieval system, fiber laser systems, panel benders, punching/shearing cells or pallet-stacking robots.

Responsibilities

• Provide safe, timely breakdown response and root-cause troubleshooting across mechanical, electrical, controls, hydraulic, pneumatic, servo, CNC, safety and communication systems.
• Maintain and troubleshoot the material management automated storage/retrieval and material-handling system, including towers, cranes/loaders, conveyors, sensors, interlocks, pallet/stacking interfaces and communication faults.
• Diagnose PLC, HMI, CNC, VFD and servo-drive faults; monitor I/O and logic, interpret alarms and trends, back up approved programs/parameters, and make controlled changes within site authorization and change-management requirements.
• Plan and complete preventive/predictive maintenance, inspections, lubrication, cleaning, alignment, calibration, filter/cooling-system service, cutting-head/optics maintenance and component replacement.
• Coordinate effectively with production, engineering, IT/OT, contractors and OEM technical support during troubleshooting, upgrades, installations and commissioning.
• Train operators and other maintenance team members on basic care, fault recognition, safe recovery procedures and new equipment requirements.
• Follow all site EHS requirements, lockout/tagout and electrical-safety rules; maintain a clean work area and participate in risk assessments and continuous-improvement activities.

Salaries are based upon candidate skills, experience, and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.What you’ll do:Position SummaryThe Maintenance Technician - Controls & Automation maintains, troubleshoots, repairs and improves advanced sheet-metal fabrication and automated material-handling equipment at the Milton site. The role provides hands-on mechanical, electrical and controls support for the automated production line, including the material management automated storage and material-flow system, fiber laser, punching/shearing, panel-bending and robotic/pallet-handling equipment. The technician responds to breakdowns, executes preventive and predictive maintenance, supports safe start-up and recovery, and partners with Operations, Engineering and OEM service teams to improve uptime, reliability and equipment capability.Key Responsibilities• Provide safe, timely breakdown response and root-cause troubleshooting across mechanical, electrical, controls, hydraulic, pneumatic, servo, CNC, safety and communication systems.• Maintain and troubleshoot the material management automated storage/retrieval and material-handling system, including towers, cranes/loaders, conveyors, sensors, interlocks, pallet/stacking interfaces and communication faults.• Support equipment such as fiber laser cutting, turret punching and shearing, panel bender, automated tower and pallet-stacking or robotic systems, as applicable to the Milton line configuration.• Diagnose PLC, HMI, CNC, VFD and servo-drive faults; monitor I/O and logic, interpret alarms and trends, back up approved programs/parameters, and make controlled changes within site authorization and change-management requirements.• Troubleshoot safety circuits and devices, including E-stops, safety relays/PLCs, light curtains/barriers, guards, interlocks and dual-channel circuits; never bypass or defeat safeguards.• Read and interpret electrical schematics, ladder logic, mechanical drawings, pneumatic/hydraulic diagrams and OEM manuals; trace circuits and signals using appropriate diagnostic tools.• Plan and complete preventive/predictive maintenance, inspections, lubrication, cleaning, alignment, calibration, filter/cooling-system service, cutting-head/optics maintenance and component replacement.• Use the computerized maintenance management system to document work performed, failure modes, downtime, parts used, follow-up actions and recurring issues; help optimize PM tasks and critical-spares inventory.• Lead or support structured problem solving and reliability improvements using fault history, downtime data and root-cause analysis; recommend corrective actions and equipment modifications.• Coordinate effectively with production, engineering, IT/OT, contractors and OEM technical support during troubleshooting, upgrades, installations and commissioning.• Train operators and other maintenance team members on basic care, fault recognition, safe recovery procedures and new equipment requirements.• Follow all site EHS requirements, lockout/tagout and electrical-safety rules; maintain a clean work area and participate in risk assessments and continuous-improvement activities.• Provide shift, overtime, call-in and weekend coverage when required to support production and major maintenance activity.Qualifications:Basic Qualifications• Post-secondary diploma/certificate/degree in electromechanical engineering technology, industrial automation, electrical technology, mechanical technology, millwright studies or a related discipline;
