Job summary

WHM Structural Engineers, based in Burnaby, BC, seeks an Intermediate Structural Engineer to contribute to design and delivery of building projects under a Project Engineer. The role offers ownership of design work, collaboration with engineers and drafters, and mentoring junior engineers.

The candidate should have a practical design approach, strong foundational skills, and independence for substantial portions of work while knowing when to seek guidance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with a structural focus.
• Registered as an Engineer-in-Training or Professional Engineer with Engineers and Geoscientists BC.
• Typically 3–7 years of relevant structural building-design experience; level and compensation assessed by capability.
• Experience designing buildings using concrete, wood, steel, or composites.
• Working knowledge of Canadian building codes and material standards.
• Experience with structural analysis and design and with software like Bluebeam.

Responsibilities

• Complete structural analysis and design for assigned portions with moderate independence under a Project Engineer.
• Perform gravity and lateral design calculations and develop buildable structural solutions.
• Prepare calculations, models, sketches, markups, and design documentation for review.
• Coordinate with Project Drafters and lead coordination for defined portions of a project.
• Review drawings, models, shop drawings, and calculations within assigned areas.
