Job summary

Mérieux NutriSciences - North America in Montreal is seeking a Microbiology Technician to prep samples, perform plates and incubations, and support laboratory QA. The role requires college-level training or equivalent experience, with a focus on safety, accuracy, and data entry in LIMS.

Evening shift with competitive CAD compensation and full-time benefits. Schedule: Monday–Friday, 2:00 PM–10:30 PM; Wage: $21 CAD/hour plus an evening shift bonus.

  • Basic science knowledge to perform testing accurately.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare samples for analysis by recording, weighing, and homogenizing.
  • Label plates with client and sample numbers for traceability.
  • Pipette sample solutions into tubes or plates as per the analysis process.
  • Pour agar into plates or tubes to start growth.
  • Place plates in incubator for specified time and temperature.
  • Prepare media and broth for pathogen testing as required.
  • Maintain knowledge of LIMS and ensure data accuracy.
  • Set up equipment and materials for analysis and read plates/tubes as needed.
  • Support quality and continuous improvement efforts.

We Are Looking For a Microbiology Technician In 7150 Frederick Banting, Suite 101, Montreal, QC H4S 2A1 CAN. Your Mission Will Be To

Objectif : Le/La titulaire du poste prépare les échantillons en vue de l'analyse et tient à jour la documentation du processus afin de faciliter la traçabilité des procédures d'analyse.

Activités Principales
  • Préparer l'échantillon pour l'analyse par l'enregistrement, la pesée, et l'homogénéisation.
  • Inscrire l'identification sur les plaques ou tubes afin de pouvoir suivre le numéro du client et celui de l'échantillon.
  • Pipetter les dilutions d'échantillon dans des tubes ou plaques selon le processus d'analyse effectué.
  • Verser la gélose dans les plaques ou tubes pour démarrer le processus de croissance.
  • Récupérer les plaques et les placer dans l'incubateur pendant la durée et à la température spécifiées.
  • Préparer les géloses et les bouillons pour les tests d'agents pathogènes, selon les besoins.
  • S'assurer que les milieux et le matériel sont prêts pour la séquence de tests suivante.
  • Maintenir à jour les connaissances du système de gestion de l'information de laboratoire (LIMS), nécessaires à l'exercice des responsabilités du poste.
  • Vérifier l'équipement et le matériel nécessaires à l'analyse.
  • Effectuer la lecture des plaques et tubes, selon les besoins, afin de déterminer le nombre d'organismes présents dans l'échantillon.
  • Soutenir le processus qualité et d'amélioration continue de l'entreprise.
  • Effectuer les tâches d'entretien ménager nécessaires dans les délais, en maintenant les zones de travail et l'équipement propres et désinfectés.
  • Participer au calendrier de nettoyage. Maintenir et conserver les échantillons selon les besoins.
  • Respecter toutes les politiques de sécurité.
  • Soutenir la direction du laboratoire dans la mise en œuvre, la maintenance et l'amélioration du système de gestion.
  • Effectuer d'autres tâches connexes selon les besoins.
Purpose (Objective):
  • Prepare sample for analysis by recording, weighing, and blending
  • Write identification onto plates so that client and sample number can be tracked
  • Pipette sample solution into tubes or plates according to the analysis process being performed
  • Pour the agar into plates or tubes to begin the growth process
  • Collect plates and place them in the incubator for the specified amount of time and temperature
  • Prepare media and broth for use in pathogen testing as required
  • Ensure that media and materials are prepared for the next testing sequence
  • Maintain knowledge of Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) that is required to complete job responsibilities
  • Set up equipment and materials needed for analysis
  • Read plates and tubes, as required, to determine the number of organisms in the sample
  • Support corporate quality and continuous improvement process
  • Perform necessary housekeeping duties in a timely manner, keeping the work areas and equipment clean and sanitized
  • Must participate in cleaning schedule and maintain retain samples as required
  • Adhere to all safety policies
  • Responsibility to support laboratory management in the implementation maintenance, and improvement of the management system
  • Perform other related tasks as needed

Profil (études/qualifications et expérience professionnelle requises) :

Diplôme collégial ou expérience professionnelle équivalente et au moins un an d’expérience pertinente. Le titulaire doit posséder des connaissances de base en sciences pour effectuer des tests avec précision et obtenir des résultats précis. Une connaissance de base des ordinateurs personnels est utile pour saisir correctement les données et les résultats des tests. Une connaissance de base des procédures et politiques de sécurité en laboratoire est nécessaire pour assurer un environnement de travail sécuritaire. Des compétences en planification sont utiles pour maintenir les stocks de matériel d’analyse et garantir que les analyses sont terminées dans les délais.

Compétences requises :

Compétences en gestion du temps, capacité à prioriser les échantillons et les tâches dans un environnement dynamique. Souci du détail. Des compétences analytiques sont essentielles pour mener à bien les analyses et déterminer la concentration du micro-organisme. Une connaissance générale du système de gestion de l'information de laboratoire est requise pour traiter les données clients. Une dextérité physique est requise pour manipuler les échantillons.

Environnement de travail :

Le/La titulaire travaille en laboratoire avec un éclairage et une température adéquats. Il/Elle sera exposé(e) occasionnellement aux vapeurs, aux produits chimiques et aux matériaux de laboratoire. Le port d’équipements de sécurité (gants, blouse et lunettes) peut être requis selon le procédé d’analyse. Le/La titulaire peut utiliser l’autoclave quotidiennement. Le transport des milieux de culture nécessite le levage continu de matériaux d’analyse pesant jusqu’à 22,7 kg. Le/La titulaire peut s’attendre à passer de longues heures en position debout. Il/Elle doit être capable de détecter de légères variations de couleurs.

Profile (required education/qualification and professional background):

HS Diplomaand 1+ year relevant work,. The incumbent must have a basic knowledge of science to accurately perform testing procedures and obtain accurate results. A basic knowledge of personal computers is useful to accurately enter testing data and results. A basic knowledge of laboratory safety procedures and policies is necessary to ensure a safe working environment. Planning skills are useful to maintain supplies of analysis materials and ensure analysis is completed within specified time.

Required skills:

Time management skills, ability to prioritize samples and tasks in a fast paced environment. Attention to detail. Analytical skills are essential to complete analysis procedures and determine the concentration of the microorganism. A general knowledge of the Laboratory Information Management System is required to process client data. Physical dexterity is required for manipulating samples.

Work Environment:

The incumbent works in a laboratory setting with proper lighting and temperature control. Occasional exposure to laboratory fumes, chemicals, and materials will occur when in the laboratory. Safety equipment of gloves, laboratory coat and eyeglasses may need to be worn depending on the testing process. The incumbent may use the autoclave daily to complete the analysis process. Continuous lifting of analysis materials weighing up to 50 pounds are necessary to transport media materials. The incumbent can expect extended time spent in a standing position. The incumbent should be able

detect slight variation in shades of colors.

Compensation:

$21.00 CAD per hour, plus an additional bonus for the evening shift
