Job summary

Tajikeimɨk is seeking a Nuji-Apoqnmuet (Mi'kmaw Patient Helper) for a part-time, 6-month term to support Mi'kmaw and Indigenous community members in Nova Scotia healthcare facilities.

Reporting to the Program Leader Cultural Safety, you will translate, navigate services, and advocate for culturally safe, wholistic care while traveling within the designated area.

Start date ASAP; salary to be negotiated based on experience.

Qualifications

• Fluent in Mi'kmaw language required.
• Experience working with First Nation/Indigenous communities.
• Ability to travel within Nova Scotia.
• Strong communication and advocacy skills.
• Confidentiality and professionalism.

Responsibilities

• Provide Mi'kmaw language translation for patients, families and health professionals.
• Visit Indigenous clients in hospitals and support families.
• Assist with navigation of health systems and NIHB processes.
• Participate in hospital and community meetings as needed.
• Support culturally safe, wholistic patient care.
