Job summary

Halifax Regional Centre for Education (HRCE) invites applications for the Leader of Mi’kmaw Culture and Language. This PEG-level role will provide leadership in Mi’kmaw language and culture, mentor teachers, and supervise Mi’kmaw/Indigenous Student Support Workers within the Diversity team.

The candidate will apply Mi’kmaw knowledge and Treaty Education expertise to advance student success and collaborate across schools within HRCE’s 350 km region. Travel to schools is required.

Qualifications

• Mi’kmaw knowledge of history, culture and educational issues.
• Experience working with Mi’kmaw youth/students and communities.
• Post-secondary education or equivalent training, or relevant experience.],

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership in Mi’kmaw Language and Culture to support closing gaps for Mi’kmaw and Indigenous students.
• Supervise and evaluate Mi’kmaw/Indigenous Student Support Workers within the Diversity team.
• Collaborate with teachers to support Treaty Education and mentor colleagues to facilitate change.
