Job summary

The Technician is responsible for the handling, consolidating and processing of hazardous and non-hazardous waste materials received by the Processing Facilities, with a strong focus on safety and efficiency.

Based in the Region of Halton, you will operate the MHSW Depot, weigh materials, maintain the grounds, provide excellent resident service, and follow all regulations while coordinating with the MHSW Program Lead.

Qualifications

• Post-secondary degree/diploma in chemistry or environmental would be an asset.
• Two (2) years of MHSW, chemistry or relevant experience.
• Valid G License and own transportation is mandatory as depots are typically located outside of public transportation.

Responsibilities

• Operate the Region of Halton MHSW Depot.
• Provide excellent customer service to residents visiting the depot.
• Ensure safety of all workers, public, and visitors to the site.
• Perform physically demanding work.
• Identify, sort, and pack waste chemicals into appropriate storage containers.
• Weigh each material on-site and input weights into the inventory system.
• Maintain clean grounds and facility.
• Comply with all operating regulations for the depot.
• Communicate with Region of Halton Representatives and the public.
• Report to and receive authorization from the MHSW Program Lead.

Job description

The Technician is responsible for the handling, consolidating and processing of hazardous and non-hazardous waste materials received by the Processing Facilities. The Technician must display a focus on safety and efficiency in a team environment while performing moderately labor intensive and repetitious tasks.

POSITION: Region of Halton MHSW Facilities Technician

Experience, Qualifications & Education

• Post-secondary degree /diploma degree required (In the field of chemistry or environmental would be an asset.)
• Two (2) years of MHSW, chemistry or relevant experience.
• Valid G License and own transportation is mandatory as depots are typically located outside of public transportation.

Working Conditions

You will be required to work Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday
from 7:45am-4:30pm (Thursdays and Sundays off)

• The Region of Halton MHSW Depot is closed on statutory holidays, including the Civic Holiday, except for Boxing Day

Work Requirements

• Responsible for the operation of the Region of Halton MHSW Depot.
• Provide excellent customer service to residents visiting the depot.
• Responsible for safety of all workers, public, and visitors to the site
• Perform physically demanding work.
• Identify, sort, and pack waste chemicals into appropriate storage containers.
• Weigh each material on-site (eg. drums, gaylords, 20L Pails, etc…) and input the weights in the computer inventory tracking system.
• Maintain clean grounds and facility.
• Comply with all rules and regulations to do with operating the depot.
• Have good communication skills to deal with Region of Halton Representatives, and the public.
• Report to and receive authorization from the MHSW Program Lead
