Job summary

Boart Longyear is seeking a results-driven Production Supervisor to join our North Bay, Ontario manufacturing team. This role oversees daily shop-floor operations, supports a unionized workforce, and drives safety, quality and productivity improvements.

The ideal candidate will be hands-on with machining, possess strong problem-solving abilities, and have a proven track record in lean manufacturing and continuous improvement. Shift flexibility and cross-functional collaboration are required.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of hands-on machining experience.
• Previous supervisory experience in a manufacturing or machining environment.
• Proficient in CNC programming and machine setup.
• Familiarity with ISO 9001/14001 and EHS standards.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and lead a unionized workforce in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
• Monitor attendance, manage timecards, and ensure accurate payroll submissions.
• Provide training and support to machine operators, promoting development and skill-building.
• Champion Lean Manufacturing initiatives and actively lead improvement projects.
• Identify and implement process improvements to reduce cycle times and increase throughput.
• Contribute to the maintenance and advancement of ISO certifications (ISO 9001/14000/18000).
• Participate in and help facilitate monthly Quality and Safety meetings.
• Maintain a safe, clean, and organized production floor aligned with EHS standards.
• Troubleshoot equipment, programming, and machining issues as they arise.
• Ensure full compliance with Ontario Health & Safety legislation and internal policies.

Qualifications

Education:

• Post-secondary education in Manufacturing, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or a related field preferred.

Experience:

• Minimum 5 years of hands-on machining experience required.
• Prior supervisory experience in a manufacturing or machining environment.
• Proficient in CNC programming and machine setup.
• Familiarity with collective bargaining agreement (CBA) administration in a unionized environment.
• Experience working within ISO-certified systems and supporting EHS standards.

Languages

• English required (spoken and written).
• French language skills considered an asset.

Physical and Environmental Conditions

Work Environment:

• Industrial manufacturing facility with rotating shifts (8, 10, or 12 hours).
• 24/7 operating schedule day and night rotational schedule.
• Exposure to machining equipment, tools, and moderate noise levels.
• PPE required in designated areas (safety boots, glasses, hearing protection).

Lifting Requirements:

• Occasional lifting of materials or tools up to 50 lbs.
• Standing and walking required throughout shift, along with occasional bending and reaching.
