Job summary

The Métis Nation–Saskatchewan is seeking a Métis Patient Support Worker to assist patients in hospital settings, promoting culturally safe care and helping navigate complex healthcare systems.

This role focuses on advocacy, emotional and practical support, and coordination with MN-S programming and community resources to improve experiences and outcomes for Métis individuals and families.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a relevant field with experience in healthcare settings.
• 2–3 years of relevant healthcare experience; Indigenous service delivery or patient advocacy preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide person-centered, trauma-integrated support to Métis patients and families in the hospital.
• Support in creating culturally safe environments for Métis patients and families.
• Advocate for the well-being of Métis patients while supporting equitable access to health care services.
• Support Métis Patients in navigating healthcare systems, including care plans, referrals, and discharge planning.
• Aid in building respectful relationships with Métis patients, families, and healthcare professionals.
• Facilitate referrals to Ma Faamii, Medical Travel Assistance Program (MTAP), and external resources.
• Identify barriers impacting Métis patients' care and work collaboratively to support the best outcome.
• Other duties as assigned.
