We are seeking a highly analytical and detail-oriented Metals Research Market Trade Analyst to join our team in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The successful candidate will be responsible for researching, analyzing, and forecasting trends within the metals and mining markets, focusing on supply, demand, pricing, and key industry developments. This role supports business strategies by providing comprehensive market insights and future outlooks.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform market research and analysis for new and existing opportunities in FQM’s metal products, including copper, nickel, magnetite, and precious metals. Engage with customers and understand technical and commercial aspects.
  • Research market supply, quality, logistics, and assist in procurement of essential bulk commodities like coal and sulfur.
  • Evaluate logistics opportunities, including inland, port, and marine logistics.
  • Contribute to group reports such as the Annual Information Form (AIF) and board reports.
  • Manage interactions with market intelligence providers.
  • Conduct in-depth research on metal commodity markets, focusing on trends and geopolitical factors.
  • Evaluate and compare commercial bids for sales and inputs, presenting findings to management.
  • Assess potential new customers for capability and logistics feasibility.
  • Perform regular and ad hoc market analyses and communicate findings to stakeholders.
  • Coordinate visits to customer plants and facilitate reciprocal visits.
  • Write sections of various reports, troubleshooting quality issues as needed.
  • Gather and analyze data to support strategic decisions, including production and trade flows.
  • Develop forecasting models considering economic and regulatory factors.
  • Prepare reports and presentations with actionable insights.
  • Monitor changes in regulations and industry standards.
  • Collaborate with investment, finance, and operations teams to support corporate strategies.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Finance, Geology, Engineering, or related; Master’s preferred.
  • At least 3 years of experience in metals research, commodity analysis, or financial analysis in mining or related industries; international experience is a plus.
  • Strong analytical, data interpretation, and trend analysis skills.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel, data analysis tools, and familiarity with Bloomberg, Reuters, or similar platforms.
  • Willingness to travel up to 30% of the time.
