Job summary

SGS Canada, a world-leading testing, inspection and certification company, invites students to join its Metallurgy and Consulting group for a co-op. The position focuses on testing and analysis of base and precious metal ores and minerals, with terms of 8, 12, or 16 months.

Starts available January 2027 or May 2027 to align with academic semesters. Responsibilities include operating lab equipment, data provision, report preparation, and ensuring safety and compliance.

Qualifications

• Must be enrolled in a post secondary education Science related program (Chemistry, Metallurgical Engineering Technology, etc.)
• Experience in a laboratory setting is a strong asset.
• Proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Outlook.
• Good time management and attention to detail.
• Communicate effectively in English, both verbal and written.
• Ability to work well with others and independently.
• Ability to work under pressure.
• Extended hours and shift work may be required.
• Travel to other SGS locations or client locations may be required.

Responsibilities

• Perform a wide variety of testing and analysis on base and precious metal ores, industrial minerals and materials.
• Use applied methods in laboratory or pilot plant operations.
• Design, develop, test, install and operate equipment and systems.
• Conduct applied research and experimental testing.
• Compile and analyze data and prepare reports.
• Receive, inspect, sort and label client samples.
• Sort, crush, pulverize, split, and screen samples.
• Troubleshoot and repair equipment or components.
• Calibrate and set up equipment prior to analysis.
• Maintain a clean working environment.
