0.8 EFT (31 hours per week)

$45.436 to $61.665 depending on qualifications

Job Summary

Reporting to the Director of Prevention, Testing and Wellness the Mental Health Therapist provides low barrier, culturally safe community mental health services to Nine Circles’ mandated community/clients.

The job is part-timepermanent, 62 hours per two-week period (including holiday pay hours). The regular workday for this position will fall between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Mondays through Fridays. Occasional evenings and weekends will be required.

The position is classified as Mental Health and Addictions Therapist (Masters Required) MAHCP. A comprehensive benefit package is provided as per employee eligibility via HEB Manitoba.

Key Responsibilities

The Mental Health Therapist will provide therapeutic support and interventions, recognizing that mental well-being is deeply interconnected with a person’s environment, culture, relationships and lived experience. This role emphasizes accessibility, cultural responsiveness, and trauma-informed care within a community-based setting. Responsibilities include:

  • Provide individual, family and group therapy to clients experiencing trauma, addictions, identify struggles and emotional/behavior challenges using a strengths-based, holistic framework that integrates mental, emotional, physical and spiritual well-being
  • Provide support and counseling to individuals living with HIV and struggling with issues such as stigma, depression, anxiety and adjustment challenges
  • Provide support and counseling to individuals struggling with substance use disorders, focusing on reducing harm and promoting recovery through a harm reduction approach, including education, referrals and crisis intervention
  • Develop and facilitate mental health workshops, support groups and skills building sessions in community settings

Qualifications

Education

  • Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling Psychology, Clinical Psychology or a related mental health field and
  • Extensive experience (a minimum of two years) developing and implementing mental health services in community-based health and social service environments (varied experiences will be considered)

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

  • Demonstrated understanding of trauma-informed, strengths-based and culturally responsive care in mental health services within a harm reduction framework
  • Demonstrated understanding of Indigenous culture and traditions and the impact of colonization on the health and well-being of Indigenous individuals and families.
  • Commitment to and knowledge of community-based health care, health equity and the determinants of health
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in supporting individuals through intersectional stigma associated with chronic illness including HIV
  • Knowledge of and experience with families and individuals who have diverse challenges and have experienced significant disruption
  • Knowledge of and understanding of 2SLGBTTQ* population issues, newcomers (including refugees, immigrants and asylum seekers) and sex positivity (sexual health)
  • Excellent communication, conflict resolution and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with the interpretation and application of the provisions of the Personal Health Information Act (PHIA) and other relevant legislation, e.g. Mental Health Act, Child and Family Services Act
  • Demonstrated ability and experience in working independently while working effectively as a member of an interdisciplinary team
  • Demonstrated computer competency and experience working with Microsoft applications including Word, Excel, Power Point, Share Point and Outlook
  • Child Abuse Registry Check, vulnerable Sector Check, and Criminal Record Check completed within the past six months

Assets

  • Knowledge of or experience with traditional ceremonies and their role in healing practices grounded in Indigenous worldviews
  • Bilingualism or multilingualism
  • Experience with ACCURO
