The role emphasizes trauma-informed care and cultural alignment with Inuvialuit values, requiring ability to work night, weekend, and holiday shifts in a 24/7 residential setting. This male-only position is a bona fide occupational requirement (BFOR).

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Two years’ experience in a support, shelter, or wellness program preferred.
  • Certifications in First Aid/CPR, NVCI, ASIST, and WHMIS (or willingness to obtain).

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct day-to-day support to residents, ensuring emotional and physical needs are met.
  • Assist residents with meals, laundry, cleaning, and personal routines.
  • Foster positive relationships and trust with residents through empathy, boundaries and consistency.
  • Support residents in following facility guidelines and curfews.
  • Encourage participation in cultural, recreational, and skill-building programs.
  • Monitor and report changes in resident well-being to the Coordinator or Manager.
  • Organize and facilitate structured activities and cultural programming.
  • Promote engagement in community wellness and traditional practices.
  • Support group sessions, family visits, and life-skills programs.
  • Ensure residents have access to resources that promote healing and independence.
  • Maintain cleanliness and order in resident spaces and communal areas.
  • Assist with meal preparation, food service, and inventory.
  • Conduct safety checks and report maintenance issues promptly.
  • Follow IRC HR policies including overtime, standby & callback pay.
  • Record daily observations and shift activities in logs and reports.
  • Participate in shift handovers and staff debriefings.
  • Maintain confidential documentation per IRC policies.
