Kelowna General Hospital (KGH) is the Interior Health region’s main referral center offering a full range of services with 472 beds and over 88,000 ED visits yearly. Adjacent to Kelowna General is the Interior Heart & Surgical Centre (IHSC) which opened in 2015 and is BC’s only cardiac critical care centre outside of Victoria and the Lower Mainland. IHSC is Kelowna General Hospital’s principal surgical site and features; 12 specialized Operating Rooms created for Thoracic, Urology, Neurosurgery, Vascular, Plastics, Obstetrics/Gynecology, Ears Nose and Throat, Orthopedics, General and Trauma surgeries with 2 ORs dedicated to Cardiac. KGH also has an academic campus that serves as a satellite for the University of British Columbia Medical School.

Practice Details

Interior Health is seeking a medical microbiologist to join their regional medical microbiology and infection control team which serves four microbiology laboratories in Kelowna, Kamloops, Trail and Cranbrook. The KGH microbiology laboratory performs bacteriology and mycology testing and has a newly developed molecular laboratory. The candidate will focus on oversight of bacteriology testing, and possibly mycology testing if the individual is experienced or interested. The candidate will contribute to clinical consultation for the regional infection prevention and control (IPAC) program and share a clinically oriented on-call service with 6 microbiologists. The ideal candidate will have expertise in bacteriology, experience in IPAC consulting, and possibly mycology testing. Strong interpersonal skills are essential for collaborating with regional administrative, hospital, infection control, and laboratory staff.

Compensation

Compensation Type: Clinical Service Contract

Estimated Remuneration: Provincially negotiated grid level

Benefits and Incentives: Relocation assistance $9,000 - $15,000 based on move location (with eligible receipts) *Incentives are subject to change and current rates are confirmed at time of offer*
