Job summary

Interior Health in Princeton, BC is seeking an experienced Medical Laboratory Technologist to join the Princeton General Hospital laboratory.

You will perform routine and complex tests, greet patients, collect specimens, enter data into LIS, validate and report results, and maintain instruments in a fast-paced, team-based setting.

The position is a Relief Full Time role with days Monday to Friday, offering training and opportunities for professional development within Interior Health.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from an approved Medical Laboratory Science Program.
  • Successful completion of recognized competency assessment exam and registration in Clinical Chemistry, Hematology, Transfusion Medicine (Science).
  • Minimum of one year of related experience.

Responsibilities

  • Greeting patients and collecting/receiving specimens.
  • Entering data into the Laboratory Information System (LIS) and related systems.
  • Validating and reporting test results.
  • Maintaining instruments and preparing solutions and controls.

About the Job

In accordance with established vision and values of the organization, within the context of client-centred care, and in accordance with established standards of professional practice, policies, procedures, this position works in a team based environment and under general supervision of the Operations Supervisor, Professional Practice Leader or other designated personnel performs a variety of routine and/or complex tests utilizing manual procedures and automated instruments within the laboratory. Position is also responsible for functions such as greeting patients, collecting and/or receiving specimens, entering data into the Laboratory Information System (LIS) and related computer systems/programs, validating and reporting test results, maintaining instruments and preparing solutions and control agents in accordance with established procedures and safety standards. Participates in departmental training programs in individual or all sections of the lab (such as, microbiology, histology, cytology, etc.) with a view to learning new/existing tests and procedures for use in the Laboratory.

Field of practice for this position is:

Clinical Chemistry, Hematology, Transfusion Medicine (Science)

This is a Relief Full Time (1.0) position until return of incumbent.
Shifts of work will be scheduled days shifts Monday to Friday.

Qualfications
  • Graduation from an approved Medical Laboratory Science Program
  • Successful completion of recognized competency assessment exam and registration in the relevant field(s) of practice: Clinical Chemistry, Hematology, Transfusion Medicine (Science), in accordance with the Canadian Alliance of Medical Laboratory Professionals Regulators (CAMLPR) pathways, or certification with the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS).
