Job summary

Northern Health is seeking a Registered Medical Laboratory Technologist to join the Laboratory Services team at Dawson Creek & District Hospital. You will perform technical duties across clinical chemistry, hematology and transfusion medicine, ensure quality control, and prepare reports as part of a dynamic, patient-centered environment.

The role includes participation in rotating on-call duties to support 24/7 laboratory services, with shifts across days and evenings at the Dawson Creek

Qualifications

  • Certification with CSMLS or CAMLPR registration.
  • Minimum 1 year of recent related experience in the designated discipline within the last six years, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Job description

Position Summary

Are you a registered Medical Laboratory Technologist looking to highlight your knowledge, skills, and abilities in a new and dynamic environment? We currently have an opportunity for you to bring your excellent work ethic to our Laboratory Services department.

In accordance with the established mission, vision, values, and strategic priorities of Northern Health, and under the general supervision of the Manager or designate, the Medical Laboratory Technologist performs technical work involved in the duties associated with laboratory test procedures. In addition, the Medical Laboratory Technologist evaluates and verifies results and prepares related reports.

  • Field of practice for this position is: Clinical Chemistry, Hematology, Transfusion Medicine (Science).
  • This position includes participation in an on-call rotation to support 24/7 laboratory services. On-call assignments are scheduled on a rotating basis and may require return to site for call-outs outside of regular working hours.

Days, Evenings - 06:00 to 14:30, 07:00 to 03:00, 08:00 to 16:30, 10:00 to 18:30, 17:30 to 02:00, Rotating

Qualfications
  • Successful completion of recognized competency assessment exam and registration in the relevant field(s) of practice in accordance with the Canadian Alliance of Medical Laboratory Professionals Regulators (CAMLPR) pathways, or certification with the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS).
  • One-year recent related experience in the designated discipline within the last six years, and/or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Skills and Abilities
  • Demonstrated recent working knowledge of the assigned section or sections.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of laboratory procedures, and technical competence to perform tests used in the assigned section of the laboratory, including quality control and safety.
  • Basic awareness of research processes.
  • Demonstrates interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize workload.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and in collaboration with others.
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure in a constantly changing environment.
  • Basic knowledge of other health care disciplines and their role in client care using point of care instrumentation.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate related equipment and software, including techniques appropriate to the designated area of the laboratory.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
