Qualifications

  • One year's recent related experience or equivalent combination of education and training.
  • Valid Canadian Driver’s License as required.

About The Job

Cariboo Memorial Hospital (CMH) has 28 inpatient beds, 14 Emergency beds plus a trauma room, in addition to a 4-bed ICU and obstetrics unit. CMH is a close-knit team of multidisciplinary professionals, and we pride ourselves on supporting one another within the Lab and across the facility.

The fast pace, acuity, and unique needs of each patient offer opportunities to learn and develop your skill set. CMH is a diverse care environment undergoing expansion, with opportunities in the Lab and other departments as the site and community grow. You will be part of the larger IH network, gaining access to colleagues, resources, employee services, education, and training, regardless of your career path.

Medical Laboratory Assistants perform duties such as collecting blood and specimen samples, preparing specimens for analysis, conducting routine laboratory tests, distributing specimens, operating related equipment, entering data into Laboratory Information Systems (LIS), and performing clerical duties and ECG testing as required.

This is a Casual opportunity. Casual means hours are not guaranteed and may vary with short notice shifts. Casual employees are eligible to apply for internal postings, including permanent and temporary positions. Qualifications
  • Grade 12, successful completion of a recognized Laboratory Assistant training program, plus one year's recent, related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • Canadian Driver’s License as required by the position
  • Ability to type 25 WPM. A 5-minute invigilated typing test, dated within the past 48 months from an approved institution, is required. Self-administered online tests are not accepted.
