Canadian Blood Services is seeking a full-time Development Assistant to join our MAI Innovation & Portfolio Management team.

The division oversees innovation and research, organ and stem cell donation and transplantation. You will support blood component production and quality testing on various projects.

  • Support laboratory functions, planning, and operation of the netCAD Blood Research Facility.
  • Ensure procedures and experiments follow Operating Procedures or Study Protocols and comply with GMP standards.
  • Maintain documentation and records in line with operational procedures and work instructions.
  • Perform routine maintenance of equipment and work areas to ensure safety and quality.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Desired education and skills
Grade 5
  • Secondary education plus at least 2 years of laboratory experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience; certification as a laboratory assistant is desirable.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and ability to learn new systems and programs.
  • Good communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to follow instructions precisely, maintain accurate records, and complete tasks.
  • Experience with blood component processing is preferred.
Grade 6
  • Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline from a recognized institution.
  • At least 5 years of related experience in a research and development laboratory.
  • Experience with blood component processing is an asset.
  • Ability to guide and train team members, contribute to operational decisions, and provide leadership in areas like collections, production, or testing.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, safely handling biological and chemical hazards.
  • Strong communication, planning, organizational, and attention-to-detail skills.
  • Experience with laboratory methodologies, equipment, and pipetting.
