Job summary

North York General Hospital in Toronto is seeking a Medical Lab Technologist (MLT) for the Genetics Laboratory. You will perform molecular and cytogenetic procedures, rotate as needed, and maintain equipment and quality controls.

The role requires CMLTO registration or eligibility, and bilingual French/English skills are an asset; a collaborative, patient-centered approach is essential.

Qualifications

• Must be a member of CMLTO or eligible for registration in Genetics (Cytogenetics and Molecular Genetics).
• Experience in Cytogenetics and Molecular Genetics is an asset.
• Bilingualism in French/English is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Perform established Molecular Genetics and Cytogenetics laboratory procedures as required.
• Review, record, accurately report and check test results in a timely manner.
• Recognize abnormal or unusual lab results and take appropriate action according to protocol.
• Identify technical or quality process problems and take appropriate corrective action.
• Understand and participate in quality control, quality assurance and the quality management system.
• Work safely in accordance with Occupational Health & Safety Act.

You will perform Molecular laboratory procedures with accuracy and precision. You will have the opportunity to rotate and perform Cytogenetics procedures as needed. You will perform preventive maintenance of equipment. You have the ability to recognize problems and take appropriate action. You are computer proficient, have superior communication and interpersonal skills, and display a high degree of professionalism. You demonstrate strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure and maintain high level of productivity and competence. You will provide excellent patient and family- driven care in a supportive and culturally sensitive manner. This position supports the Hospital's academic mandate by advancing care through teaching and learning and/or transforming care through research and innovation.
