Job summary

Nova Scotia Health Authority is hiring a Medical Laboratory Assistant in the Western Zone at South Shore Regional Hospital. The MLA works in pre- and post-analytical testing, handling specimens, data entry, and related clerical duties, with possible off-site work and rotating shifts.

The successful candidate will have an MLA program, CSMLS/CAMPLR registration, NSRMLS licensure, strong communication, accuracy, and basic Meditech skills.

Qualifications

• Recognized MLA program or equivalent (NSRMLS acceptable).
• Must have CSMLS/CAMPLR exam completion and CSMLS registration.
• NSRMLS licensure required.
• Strong written and verbal communication.
• Basic medical terminology understanding.

Responsibilities

• Handle specimen procurement/processing and data entry.
• Prepare media, reagents, and slides; load specimens on analyzers.
• Assist with supply management and troubleshooting.
• Maintain accurate patient identification and specimen labeling.
