Job summary

Providence Health Care is hiring for a Sterile Supply Technician to support the Operating Room and related units. The role involves cleaning, decontaminating, assembling, sterilizing and distributing medical devices, equipment and linen, and providing case cart support.

The position requires Grade 12, a Sterile Supply Processing course, and approximately 1 year of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and training.

Qualifications

• Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
• Ability to organize and prioritize work.
• Mathematical aptitude.

Responsibilities

• Cleans and decontaminates medical devices, supplies and equipment used within the Operating Room, Nursing Units, Endoscopy Unit (at designated sites) and other designated areas of the hospital by following prescribed procedures using manual and mechanical techniques.
• Checks, assembles, packages, sterilizes and distributes medical devices, supplies and equipment including procedure trays used by the OR and Clinical Units.
• Picks and distributes instrument sets, supplies and equipment for operative procedures utilizing case cart system according to established procedures.
• Maintains an effective OR request system by responding to urgent requests from the OR for additional items required during surgical procedures.
• Performs clerical duties as required such as answering the phone and record keeping.
• Maintains an orderly and safe work environment following departmental safety procedures.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Summary

• Successful completion of a recognized Sterile Supply Processing course
• One year's recent related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
