Qualifications

  • Completion of a Medical Device Reprocessing Technician Program is required.
  • Current MDR Certification and knowledge of Infection Control preferred.

Reporting to the Manager and Supervisor of the Medical Device Reprocessing Department, this position performs detailed technical duties related to the decontamination, sterilization, reassembly, function testing, and distribution of medical and surgical supplies for the operating room and various areas of the hospital. This position also includes related clerical duties and record keeping.

About You

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

  • Grade 12
  • Successful completion of an approved Medical Device Reprocessing Technician Program (course with practicum preferred)
  • Current MDR Certification with a recognized certification body
  • Formal education in anatomy, medical terminology, microbiology, infection control preferred
  • Membership with the Medical Device Reprocessing Association of Nova Scotia preferred
  • Previous experience working in an MDR setting preferred
  • Experience operating MDR related equipment
  • Knowledge of Infection Control measures and Routine Practices
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and a high degree of initiative and self-motivation
  • Excellent comprehension, oral and written communication skills in English
  • Critical thinking skills for problem solving
  • An aptitude for tasks requiring manual dexterity and technical skill
  • Computer experience
  • Ability to carry up to 30 pounds; position includes repetitive bending, lifting, pushing, and pulling carts, constant standing and walking, exposure to chemicals, blood and body fluids, and extreme heat and humidity
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

  • Casual Relief
  • 8-hour rotating shifts include days, evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays
  • On-call required
  • Hours are subject to change
  • Travel to various sites may be required

A skills test will be included as part of the selection process.

Compensation and Benefits

Medical Device Reprocessing Technician:
$21.78 - $24.68 hourly

Successful candidates may be eligible for our benefits package, which includes health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance coverage as well as a defined benefit pension plan (Permanent and Long Assignments only).
