Job Summary

The role of the Mental Health Consultation Liaison Nurse Clinician is consultative and involves collaborating with and supporting staff in non-mental health areas of the hospital in their care and treatment of patients with behavioral and/or psychiatric/mental health concerns.

Qualifications

  • Current RN Certificate of Registration from the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • CNA certification in Psychiatric / Mental Health Nursing
  • Knowledge and understanding of the College of Nurses Professional Standards of Practice and Standards of Psychiatric / Mental Health Clinical Nursing Practice
  • Three to five years’ recent experience in acute mental health
  • Experience in medicine and geriatric fields
  • Strong working knowledge of the Mental Health Act
  • Current BCLS certification
  • Crisis Prevention Institute Certification or equivalent
  • Ability to coordinate patient care involving the client, family, other disciplines, and collateral agencies
  • Knowledge of psychiatric needs of medically ill patients
  • Skills in patient assessment, including delirium and dementia diagnosis
  • Risk assessment skills, including suicide and self-harm risks
  • Patient-focused attitude toward care
  • Knowledge of DSM V classification, psychopharmacology, psychiatric/mental health legislation, and strong working knowledge of the Mental Health Act
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team
  • Strong planning, organizing, and prioritizing skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Experience in teaching and educating
