Job summary

Confidential is seeking an experienced Mechanical Technologist to join our Mechanical Engineering Department in London or Kitchener, Ontario. The role supports the Plumbing Division in design and delivery across residential, commercial, institutional, and industrial projects in Southwestern Ontario.

You will take ownership of independent tasks, design documentation, and site coordination with a focus on quality and efficiency.

Qualifications

• Diploma in Mechanical Technology, Architectural Technology, or related program.
• 5+ years in building design, plumbing design/installation for commercial or multi-unit residential buildings.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and MS Office; REVIT is an asset.
• Demonstrated commitment to continuous professional growth.
• Comfort with AI tools to improve productivity and design processes.
• Extensive experience with the Ontario Building Code (OBC).
• Strong organizational and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
• Proven ability to manage multiple projects across stages concurrently.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; collaborative team player.

Responsibilities

• Lead or assist in developing design briefs, verification requirements, and project checklists.
• Monitor scope, timelines, and deliverables; flag cost or schedule impacts to project lead.
• Prepare and coordinate plumbing design drawings for permit and construction.
• Coordinate with clients, consultants, and internal teams to maintain design intent and milestones.
• Review and issue shop drawings; support site reviews and technical clarifications.
• Attend design and coordination meetings; record and distribute minutes.
• Assist with fee proposal preparation, pricing reviews, and occupancy sign-off activities.
• Document significant project correspondence and ensure proper records for close-out.

Working within a multidisciplinary team this role supports the Plumbing Division in the design and delivery of projects for residential, commercial, institutional, and industrial sector clients across Southwestern Ontario.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead or assist in developing design briefs, verification requirements, and project checklists to ensure quality and compliance with standards
• Monitor project scope, timelines, and deliverables; identify and communicate potential cost or schedule impacts to the Project Lead
• Prepare and coordinate plumbing design drawings for permit and construction under the direction of the Project Engineer or Project Lead
• Coordinate with clients, consultants, and internal teams to maintain design intent and project milestones
• Review and issue shop drawings and support construction services with site reviews and technical clarification
• Attend design and coordination meetings; record and distribute meeting minutes
• Assist with fee proposal preparation, pricing reviews, peer review coordination, occupancy and project sign-off activities to confirm systems align with design and specifications.
• Document all significant project correspondence and ensure records are properly stored for project close-out
• Other related duties as assigned by the Plumbing or MEP Division Leads

Qualifications:

• Diploma in Mechanical Technology, Architectural Technology, or related program
• 5+ years experience in building design, specifically plumbing design and/or installation for commercial and multi-unit residential buildings preferred
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and MS Office; experience in REVIT considered an asset

• Extensive experience with the OBC
