Join the Future of Reliable Energy!

Are you ready to shape the future grid? Hydrostor, a leading energy storage, technology and infrastructure company dedicated to developing utility-scale, long-duration energy storage solutions, is seeking a Mechanical Systems Engineer to join our team in Toronto. We’re supporting the development of a more resilient electricity grid and invite you to be at the forefront of this work!

Why Hydrostor?

Our cutting-edge A-CAES technology is uniquely poised to revolutionize the energy landscape. Join us as we lead the way in shaping a reliable and secure energy future.

Your Mission

As a Mechanical Systems Engineer with Hydrostor, this position will play a pivotal role in our commitment to innovative and sustainable power generation solutions. You will help establish and maintain the technical baseline for the mechanical systems at the heart of our Advanced Compressed Air Energy Storage (A-CAES) plants including the compression and expansion trains, thermal management systems, and mechanical balance of plant. You will be at the forefront of designing, documenting and overseeing the development of cutting‑edge power generation systems. Your work will directly impact the organization’s success in delivering efficient, reliable and environmentally responsible power solutions.

Your Day-to-Day Adventures

Design and Documentation

  • Create detailed mechanical designs, drawings, and specifications for power generation systems in alignment with project requirements.
  • Document all aspects of product design and development, ensuring accuracy and compliance with industry standards.
  • Oversee the entire product development lifecycle, from concept to delivery.

Systems Integration

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including project teams, sourcing teams, and procurement, to ensure seamless integration of mechanical systems within power generation facilities.
  • Oversee the coordination and integration of various system components to achieve optimal performance.
  • Hand off comprehensive design documentation to Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) teams for implementation.

Systems Thinking

  • Apply systems thinking principles to analyze the interrelationships between system elements and the overall performance of power generation facilities.
  • Lead discussions and dialogues to better understand, define, and manage complex systems effectively.
  • Take ownership of the product design process, ensuring that all design components and concepts are effectively incorporated into Hydrostor's documentation.
  • Requirements Management - Develop, baseline, and maintain subsystem-level requirements and equipment specifications, fully traced to plant-level requirements — covering functional performance and the nonfunctional obligations (operability, maintainability, inspectability, availability, and safety) that a 50‑year asset demands.
  • Configuration Management - Process engineering changes (ECR/ECO) against your baselines, support the Configuration Control Board, and keep configuration status accounting current.

Interdisciplinary Collaboration

  • Engage across different disciplines to foster collaboration and knowledge sharing, ensuring the successful execution of power generation projects.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert and liaison between various teams involved in the project.
  • With strategic sourcing, produce procurement‑grade specifications, run technical bid evaluations, and control vendor deviations and concessions through configuration management

Who You Are

The successful candidate for this role will be a systems thinker with a deep understanding of mechanical engineering principles and a proven track record in power generation facilities. They will thrive in a collaborative environment, excel in documentation and product management, and possess the ability to bridge the gap between design concepts and real-world implementation.

What You Bring

  • 7 + years of proven experience in mechanical engineering with a specialization in power generation, compression, or processing facilities.
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
  • Strong systems thinking skills and the ability to analyze complex interrelationships within power generation systems.
  • Proficiency in design and documentation tools and software.
  • Proficiency with requirements management tools, PLM systems, and common data environments is preferred.
  • Excellent project management and product management capabilities.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills for interdisciplinary teamwork.
  • Familiarity with industry standards and regulations in power generation.
  • Experience working with or for EPC contractors and major equipment vendors is a plus.
  • Discretionary Bonus
  • Paid Vacation Time
  • Medical, Dental and Vision Benefits
  • RRSP Program – with a match!
  • Employee Share Option Plan
