Job summary

Syntronic Ottawa is seeking a highly qualified Mechanical Verification Specialist to validate and analyze hardened mechanical systems for defense projects. You will work on qualification programs, from test plans to customer approvals, across aerospace-like requirements.

You'll collaborate with engineers to ensure thermal management, EMI containment, ruggedization, and MIL standards compliance, while advancing CAD models and root-cause analysis.

Qualifications

  • 5–8 years of experience in mechanical system product verification, preferably in the defense industry
  • Experience with MIL-STD requirements and testing (e.g., MIL-STD-810H, MIL-STD-461)
  • Ability to define requirements and manage verification plans (VCRM)
  • Strong problem-solving and root-cause analysis skills
  • Experience with design for manufacturing and high-reliability assemblies

Responsibilities

  • Drive defense qualification VCRM program including test plan and customer approval
  • Verify electronics enclosures for thermal, EMI/RF, interconnect, sealing, ruggedization
  • Develop and verify quality of mechanical assemblies and components
  • Lead root cause analysis and failure investigations
  • Perform component research for replacement recommendations
  • Support manufacturing engineering in solving manufacturing problems

Seeking a highly motivated Mechanical Verification Specialist who validates and analyzes hardened mechanical systems and delivers robust verification results.

Minimum 5‑8 years of applicable work experience, preferably in defense industry product test and verification.

What You'll Do
  • Drive defense qualification VCRM (verification cross reference matrix) program including development of test plan, procedure definition, and customer approval.
  • Verification of solutions for electronics enclosures for thermal management, EMI/RF containment, interconnect, sealing and ruggedization to meet customer product and MIL Spec requirements.
  • Develop, assess and verify quality of mechanical assemblies and components consisting of but not limited to fabricated metal components (milled, turned, stamped, and cast components), plastic injection molded components, and wire assemblies and cabling as needed.
  • Drive engineering failure analysis and root cause analysis reports. Investigate and solve problems as it relates to mechanical functionality of components and assemblies.
  • Perform component research for component replacement recommendations.
  • Support manufacturing engineering as needed in investigating and solving manufacturing problems.
What You'll Need To Get The Job Done
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • 5‑8 years of experience in mechanical system product verification, preferably in the Defense Industry
  • Understanding of Requirements Definition and Management, VCRM (verification cross reference matrix) methods
  • Experience with Mechanical CAD Design (SolidWorks, CREO or equivalent), Requirements Management Tools, PLM/Production Systems.
  • Experience with MIL‑STD requirements and testing (MIL‑STD‑810H, MIL‑DTL‑901E, MIL‑STD‑461, etc)
  • Experience with structured Root Cause Analysis and Tools (8D, FMEA, FTA, etc)
  • Ability to obtain and maintain CGP and/or Secret Clearance
  • Strong organizational, analytical and problem‑solving skills
  • Ability to quickly learn and apply new concepts, technologies and solutions
  • Ability to interface with various disciplines/functional groups
  • Team Player with strong verbal and written communication skills
What Will Make Us REALLY Love You
  • Demonstrated expertise conducting environmental stress screening (ESS) or HALT/HASS campaigns to characterize margin, identify latent design weaknesses, and inform ruggedization improvements.
  • Hands‑on experience with finite element analysis (FEA) for structural, thermal, and vibration modeling (ANSYS, Abaqus), with the ability to correlate simulation outputs to empirical test results.
  • Background in DFM/DFA for high‑reliability assemblies, including collaboration with contract manufacturers to optimize tolerances, materials, and processes for defense‑grade production.
  • Familiarity with reliability engineering practices (MTBF/MTTR modeling, Weibull analysis, lifecycle predictions) to support qualification and sustainment strategies.
  • Experience authoring or contributing to technical data packages (TDPs) and configuration‑controlled documentation for complex electro‑mechanical systems.

$80,000 - $125,000 a year
