Job summary

The University of British Columbia in Vancouver is seeking an Engineering Technician 3 to join the Mechanical Services Unit within PHAS. You will fabricate and assemble mechanical components, operate stores, and manage shipping, receiving, inventory, and supplier coordination under the Technical Services Director.

The role requires welding, machining, CAM and CAD proficiency, strict safety and WHMIS compliance, and the ability to train others.

Qualifications

• Minimum three years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Graduation from a technical college or institute in a suitable discipline.
• Red Seal Certification as machinist would be highly advantageous.
• Experience in CAD and CAM software preferred (MasterCAM, SolidWorks).
• Ability to interpret and apply engineering specifications.

Responsibilities

• Maintain PHAS stores inventory and stock levels; organize stock for access and counts.
• Receive, package, and ship items; inform end users of receipt.
• Arrange outgoing shipments and ensure WHMIS compliance where applicable.
• Assist in sourcing products and services and submit orders for research groups.
• Oversee storage of chemicals and hazardous materials per policies.
• Cary out monthly safety inspections in Technical Services areas.
• Assist in machining and fabrication tasks across the machine shop.
