The successful candidate will support facility condition assessments and engineering consulting projects, with a focus on HVAC, plumbing, building automation, fire protection, and other mechanical building systems. The position includes regular field inspections and requires the ability to evaluate existing equipment, identify deficiencies, estimate remaining service life, and contribute to capital renewal recommendations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Inspect and document HVAC, plumbing, heating, cooling, ventilation, controls/BAS, fire protection, and associated mechanical equipment
  • Assess equipment condition, age, observed deficiencies, remaining service life, and anticipated renewal requirements
  • Develop mechanical equipment inventories and verify equipment information, including manufacturer, model, capacity, age, and condition where available
  • Participate in site inspections and digital field-data collection
  • Review drawings, specifications, equipment schedules, O&M manuals, previous assessment reports, and as-built documentation
  • Identify maintenance, repair, rehabilitation, and replacement requirements
  • Assist with technical reports, maintenance recommendations, and capital planning
  • Support replacement cost estimates and life-cycle costing
  • Assist in developing short-, medium-, and long-term capital renewal forecasts
  • Apply industry-standard facility assessment frameworks and building-system classifications
  • Collaborate with engineers, architects, engineering technologists, facility operators, and project managers
  • Coordinate with facility representatives during site assessments to understand equipment history, known deficiencies, and operational concerns
  • Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, safety requirements, and client requirements
  • Escalate complex or potentially significant mechanical deficiencies to the Mechanical Engineer/Technical Lead for review
  • Participate in QA/QC reviews to support consistent assessment findings across multi-building portfolios
  • Travel to project sites throughout Alberta and occasionally other provinces as required

  • CET designation or eligibility is an asset
  • 3+ years of relevant experience in building mechanical systems, facility assessments, consulting engineering, commissioning, construction, maintenance, or facility operations is preferred
  • Direct Facility Condition Assessment experience is a strong asset

  • Knowledge of plumbing systems including domestic water, drainage, fixtures, pumps, and water-heating equipment
  • Familiarity with fire protection systems is an asset
  • Ability to read mechanical drawings, equipment schedules, specifications, and building documentation
  • Understanding of equipment service life, preventive maintenance, rehabilitation, and replacement planning is an asset
  • Experience with institutional or healthcare mechanical systems is considered a strong asset
