We are currently seeking an Intermediate Mechanical Technologist to join our Buildings team in Grande Prairie. In this role, you will support the design and delivery of mechanical systems for a wide variety of building projects across Northern Alberta — with a particular emphasis on healthcare and mission-critical facilities, where accurate modelling, careful coordination, and code-compliant documentation are essential. Working under the direction of senior engineers, you will produce the models, drawings, and coordinated documentation that turn engineered designs into buildable projects.

Our regional portfolio includes acute care hospitals, continuing care and community health centres, correctional facilities, and other essential public infrastructure. You will work closely with engineers, technologists, and multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality documentation while supporting the continued growth of CIMA+’s local presence in the region.

This role offers a balance of technical production, project coordination, and field engagement — including site reviews, field verification, and construction support for projects throughout Northern Alberta. You will take part in our hybrid work model that includes flexible work hours, working from home and in our Grande Prairie, AB office.

Primary Responsibilities:

Modelling, drafting, and documentation

  • Model, draft, and document mechanical systems — HVAC, hydronic heating and cooling, plumbing and domestic water, steam and humidification, fire protection, and building automation and controls — using current versions of Revit (MEP) and AutoCAD
  • Develop mechanical designs through drafting, modelling, and implementation of design direction from senior engineers
  • Produce coordinated drawing sets, equipment schedules, and construction details in accordance with CIMA+ and client BIM / CAD standards
  • Assist with load calculations, equipment layouts, and system coordination under the guidance of senior engineers

Healthcare and mission-critical systems

  • Model and coordinate healthcare mechanical systems in support of engineered designs, including HVAC (CSA Z317.2 / ASHRAE 170), medical gas and vacuum (CSA Z7396.1), and specialized plumbing (CSA Z317.1)
  • Support sterile processing and medical device reprocessing (MDR) infrastructure, including clean steam, humidification, and associated mechanical services
  • Maintain accurate representation of pressure relationships, airflow, and equipment within models and drawing sets

Emergency power support systems (mechanical)

  • Draft and model mechanical systems supporting emergency and standby generators, including fuel storage and day tanks, fuel oil and natural gas piping, generator room ventilation, combustion air, and exhaust and silencer arrangements
  • Coordinate generator room mechanical layouts with electrical and structural disciplines to support reliable operation of essential systems

Coordination, field, and clients

  • Work with senior engineers to ensure all aspects of the design are coordinated with other disciplines
  • Conduct site reviews and field investigations throughout Northern Alberta to support renovation and construction projects, including verification of existing conditions and as-built documentation
  • Directly engage with clients to understand project needs and maintain strong business relationships
  • Continued professional development through participation in internal and external learning opportunities
  • Contribute to the continued growth of the Grande Prairie Buildings practice
  • 4+ years’ experience using Revit (MEP) and AutoCAD supporting mechanical building design
  • Ability to adapt to and adhere to internal and external Revit / CAD and design standards
  • Membership or eligibility for membership with ASET as a Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.) is an asset
  • Familiarity with mechanical building systems and applicable codes — National Building Code (Alberta Edition) and CSA healthcare standards (Z317.1, Z317.2, Z7396.1) — is an asset
  • Exposure to healthcare, mission-critical, or other essential-facility projects is an asset
  • Available to work outside of the office on an occasional basis
  • Valid Canadian driver’s licence with access to transportation for site reviews and inspections
  • Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written) in the English language
  • Integrity, team spirit, and a commitment to excellence
