Job summary

Denison is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Lead for the Wheeler River Project, based in Northern Saskatchewan. You will provide technical leadership for mechanical engineering activities from engineering through commissioning, coordinating with the project team, contractors, and vendors.

The role requires a Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, P.Eng eligibility in Saskatchewan, and 7+ years of progressive experience.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering is required.
  • Eligibility for registration as a Professional Engineer in Saskatchewan is required.
  • 7+ years of progressive engineering and/or leadership experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead mechanical engineering activities for the Wheeler River Project, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project requirements.
  • Provide mechanical engineering expertise and technical input to project strategy, standards, processes, and plans.
  • Collaborate with the project team and engineering contractors to ensure engineering deliverables meet scope, cost, schedule, quality, and value requirements.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key equipment vendors and service providers.
  • Provide technical assurance and review of mechanical engineering work completed by engineering firms, vendors, and service providers.
  • Participate in HAZOP and other risk evaluation activities.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to project personnel on mechanical design, engineering methods, and applicable codes and standards.
  • Act as a Technical Authority when appointed.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering

Job description

The Mechanical Engineering Lead will provide technical leadership for mechanical engineering activities supporting the development of the Wheeler River Project. The role is responsible for coordinating engineering activities, providing technical direction, and ensuring designs and deliverables meet project requirements for safety, quality, cost, and schedule. Working closely with the Project Team, engineering contractors, and vendors, the Mechanical Engineering Lead supports the successful delivery of the project from engineering through procurement, construction and commissioning. This is a rotational, site-based role based in Northern Saskatchewan.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Lead mechanical engineering activities for the Wheeler River Project, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project requirements
  • Provide mechanical engineering expertise and technical input to project strategy, standards, processes, and plans
  • Collaborate with the project team and engineering contractors to ensure engineering deliverables meet scope, cost, schedule, quality, and value requirements
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key equipment vendors and service providers
  • Provide technical assurance and review of mechanical engineering work completed by engineering firms, vendors, and service providers
  • Participate in HAZOP and other risk evaluation activities
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to project personnel on mechanical design, engineering methods, and applicable codes and standards

You are an experienced mechanical engineer with strong technical, leadership, and communication skills, and a proven ability to deliver complex engineering work in a collaborative project environment. In addition, you have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering
  • Eligibility for registration as a Professional Engineer in Saskatchewan
  • 7+ years of progressive engineering and/or leadership experience
  • Strong knowledge of multidisciplinary engineering practices, standards, and design processes
  • Experience in uranium, mining, heavy industrial, or similar environments is considered an asset
  • Experience across the equipment design lifecycle, including specifications, procurement, vendor engineering, and design review
  • Strong organizational, communication, and stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to build effective relationships with engineering firms, contractors, vendors, and internal teams
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a commitment to delivering safe, high-quality engineering solutions
