Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management or a related technical discipline.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in construction, project delivery or major capital projects.
  • Experience managing construction activities on large, complex projects with multiple contractors and work packages.
  • Proficiency in Office Suite is required, and SAP/ERP software is an asset.
  • Excellent communication skills to convey performance expectations across all levels.
  • Strong leadership, teamwork, collaboration and negotiation skills.

Job description

The Construction Manager is responsible for leading the safe and efficient execution of site construction activities for the Wheeler River Project (the “Project”), while working closely with the Integrated Project Team (the “IPT”) to coordinate contractors, employees, and project stakeholders. With the Project now in the construction phase, this role is focused on organizing, executing, and monitoring construction activities against the control budget and schedule, proactively identifying actual or emerging variances and developing plans to bring the Project back on track, while ensuring work is completed in compliance with environmental and licence permits, health and safety regulations, quality requirements, and applicable project standards. This is a rotational, site-based role based in Northern Saskatchewan.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provides senior construction leadership within the Integrated Project Team (IPT) and is responsible for ensuring construction activities are effectively planned, coordinated and executed to achieve the project’s objectives for safety, schedule, cost, quality and an operationally ready final product.
  • Oversees construction sequencing, work packaging, site logistics, constructability and readiness for field execution.
  • Monitors construction progress against the approved schedule and identify risks, constraints and opportunities for recovery.
  • Serves as the primary internal construction interface with construction contractors and construction management teams.
  • Ensure effective coordination between multiple contractors, trades and work packages.
  • Maintains direct ownership and accountability for designated infrastructure scopes that support the Project site.
  • Takes direct ownership and accountability for designated infrastructure scopes that support the mine site, from planning and design through construction, commissioning, completion and turnover.
  • Monitors contractor performance and ensure issues are identified, escalated and resolved in a timely manner.
  • Participates in contractor performance reviews commercial discussions, change management and resolution of significant construction issues.
  • Work closely with Project Controls to monitor construction progress, forecast completion dates and identify schedule risks.
  • Provide construction input into project cost forecasts, estimates and contingency requirements.
  • Review construction-related changes, claims, delays and potential impacts to cost and schedule.
  • Ensure construction issues affecting the critical path are identified and addressed promptly.
  • Promote a strong construction safety culture and ensure activities are conducted in accordance with company standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure quality management processes are effectively implemented throughout construction.
  • Support investigation and resolution of significant safety, quality and environmental issues.
  • Ensure construction planning incorporates commissioning, turnover and operational readiness requirements from the outset.
  • Coordinate construction completion, deficiency management, system turnover and readiness for commissioning.
  • Ensure facilities and infrastructure are delivered in a condition suitable for safe, reliable and effective operation.
  • Provide regular construction status, risks, issues, forecasts and recommendations to senior leadership
  • Maintain a proactive focus on identifying emerging risks and ensuring appropriate mitigation and escalation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

You have broad technical and contractual knowledge and progressively complex construction experience with a solid track record of delivering results. As a leader, you influence others to achieve results through methodical planning and execution strategies, proactive and collaborative communication tactics, and a strong commitment to safe work practices that contribute to a highly effective and engaged workplace. Additional qualifications and attributes include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management or a related technical discipline.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in construction, project delivery or major capital projects, preferably in mining, heavy industrial or resource development.
  • Demonstrated experience managing construction activities on large, complex projects with multiple contractors and work packages.
  • Proven ability to apply technical knowledge to construction planning, execution, monitoring, and problem-solving in a complex project environment.
  • Strong leadership, teamwork, collaboration, and negotiation skills to effectively achieve results through others.
  • Proficiency in Office Suite is required, and SAP/ERP software is an asset.
  • Excellent communication skills to communicate information and convey performance expectations effectively across all levels of stakeholders.
  • Highly effective in managing daily priorities and longer-term activities to meet deadlines, safety requirements, and quality standards.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to engage, influence and build solid working relationships with peers, co-workers, employees, vendors, contractors, and other stakeholders.
  • Experience or familiarity with uranium mining and processing is an asset.
