About Ascension Automation Solutions

Established in 2013, Ascension Automation Solutions are the experts in the field of industrial robotics with a specialty in robotic manufacturing applications, providing everything from system design to machine commissioning. We tackle any project, including but not limited to custom automation (design and build), machine retro-fit, automation integration, and all required maintenance and service. Role and Responsibilities

We are currently looking for a Mechanical Engineering Lead to join our team. The successful candidate will demonstrate their ability lead a small Mechanical Design team (of no more than 10), and provide support, solutions and ensure the successful delivery of robust, high-quality Mechanical Design projects. An ideal candidate will have experience in both the Automation and Automotive industry using AutoCad, Solidworks, and NX, and have a good understanding of fixtures, experience using BIW/NAAMS, developing 3D models for custom machinery design, and use of process simulators for simulation of cells.


Qualifications


  • Minimum of (8) years of related work experience.

  • Ability to use 3D scanning software to reverse engineer design and validate builds.

  • Must demonstrate the ability to use AutoCAD for layouts

  • Must have knowledge of safety systems related to robotics cells and machinery safety design.

  • Knowledge of common machine shop techniques, drafting principles and be capable of designing tooling from sketches or verbal concepts.


Job Description


  • Lead and mentor a small team of Mechanical Engineers (both internal and external), fostering a collaborative environment and supporting professional development.

  • Liaise with customers and suppliers in a professional manner.

  • Analyze engineering drawings and specifications to determine shape, dimensions, hardness in the development of equipment, process, and products.

  • Perform engineering calculations with respect to strength of materials, speeds, horsepower, temperature, pressure, force, as related to machine and tool designs.

  • Review drawings, accurate material selection, proper machining techniques, finishes and hardness.

  • Produce product drawings, detailed drawings and bill of materials for equipment, subassemblies or products using AutoCAD and SolidWorks.

  • Create drawings of existing tooling using precision measuring equipment such as calipers (vernier/dial/digital) and micrometers.

  • Analyze designs and systems for compliance to applicable standards (OSHA, CE, or customer specifications).

  • Perform on-site investigations to determine mechanical design requirements for both new equipment and modifications to existing equipment.

  • Communicate task progress to staff and communicate all design changes to clients.

  • Formalize and update drawing documentation.

  • Overtime will be required on an as need basis, this will be driven by workload


Experience and Education:


  • A Mechanical Engineering Degree or diploma

  • P.ENG designation would be an asset

  • 5 years experience in Industrial Automation is a must

  • 5 years experience in the Automotive Industry is an asset

  • Must be able to work both independently and within a team

  • Possess strong written and verbal communication skills

  • 5 years experience in AutoCAD and Solidworks

  • Possess strong interpersonal skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Office applications


Remuneration

Starting wage rates/hour will follow the ranges below and will be determined based on skill and experience.


Salary: 80,000 to 100,000K/ Annually
