Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking a senior mechanical engineer to contribute to nuclear power plant systems design in a hybrid work setting in Canada. The role involves preparing and reviewing modification packages, drawings, specifications, and analyses to support plant operation and modernization efforts.

The candidate will lead project teams, evaluate vendor bids, and interface with clients at office or plant sites.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in the power industry.
  • Working knowledge of codes, standards, and regulations that apply to mechanical engineering design of nuclear power plants.
  • Prior commercial nuclear industry experience.

Responsibilities

  • Design and review modification packages for operating nuclear power plants.
  • Produce functional mechanical drawings and drawings for nuclear plant systems.
  • Perform engineering analyses and evaluations to support modifications and operation of plant systems.
  • Prepare technical specifications and procurement documents for plant equipment.
  • Evaluate vendor bids for plant equipment.
  • Conduct studies and options evaluations for modifications to operating nuclear power plants.
  • Develop engineering cost estimates for small to mid-sized client work scopes.
  • Interface with clients on site and present engineering task status.
  • Lead engineering project teams.

You will be involved in nuclear power plant systems design, including preparation or review of:

  • Modification packages for operating nuclear power plants
  • Functional mechanical drawings and/or drawings for nuclear power plant systems
  • Engineering analyses and evaluations to support modifications and operation of plant systems
  • Technical specifications and procurement documents for plant equipment
  • Vendor bid evaluations for plant equipment
  • Studies and options evaluations for modifications to operating nuclear power plants
Additional Opportunities
  • Develop engineering cost estimates for small to mid‑sized client‑requested work scopes
  • Visit client office and/or plant site locations to interface with the client and make presentations related to engineering tasks and status
  • Lead engineering project teams
Work Schedule

This position is based on a hybrid work schedule and will require in‑office work three days per week, giving you the flexibility to work remotely for two days.

Eligibility

This position may require access to U.S. export‑controlled information. As such, candidates must be a citizen of a country listed in Appendix A to Part 810 of the Code of Federal Regulations.

Qualifications
  • BSME with emphasis in Mechanical Engineering or Chemical Engineering from a Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board‑accredited undergraduate program or a U.S. ABET‑accredited program
  • 10 or more years of experience in the power industry
  • Working knowledge of codes, standards, and regulations that apply to mechanical engineering design of nuclear power plants
  • Prior commercial nuclear industry experience
Desired Experience
  • P.Eng license
  • Active Ontario Power Generation (OPG) security clearance
