Job summary

TYLin is seeking a Mechanical Engineer with HVAC design experience to join our Water Sector team in Toronto. You will contribute to design and review of mechanical building systems, drive load calculations, equipment selection, and coordination with multi-disciplinary teams.

Ideal candidates have 8+ years in HVAC/Plumbing/Fire Protection, a Mechanical Engineering degree, and a P.Eng. certification. The role offers a comprehensive total rewards package and a hybrid work environment in Canada.

Qualifications

• 8+ years design experience in HVAC, Plumbing, and Fire Protection systems.
• University degree or college/technology diploma in Mechanical Engineering.
• Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with PEO is required.
• Ability to read architectural, structural, mechanical and electrical drawings.
• Experience with 2D AutoCAD and 3D Revit.

Responsibilities

• Perform and review heating, cooling, and ventilation load calculations (HAP, TAS, Excel, etc.).
• Prepare Mechanical and Plumbing schematic design layout and final design.
• Create and maintain mechanical equipment schedules and motor lists.
• Review and prepare mechanical specifications.
• Prepare or confirm all mechanical equipment selections using the firm’s procedures.
• Review shop drawings, RFIs, and other construction changes.
• Coordinate mechanical requirements with other disciplines on the project design team.
• Direct and supervise Junior and Intermediate Designers to ensure quality delivery.
• Coordinate or confirm service connections with utilities or municipal agencies.
• Assist with fee proposal preparation.
• Maintain good client relations.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

Key Accountabilities

• Perform and review heating, cooling, and ventilation load calculations(HAP, TAS, Excel, etc.).
• Prepare Mechanical and Plumbing schematic design layout and final design.

• Review and prepare mechanical specifications.
• Prepare or confirm all mechanical equipment selections using the firm’s selection procedures.
• Review shop drawings, Requests for Information (RFIs), and other construction changes.
• Coordinate mechanical requirements with other disciplines involved in the project design team.
• Direct and supervise Junior and Intermediate Designers within your team to ensure the delivery of quality projects.
• Coordinate or confirm service requirements/connections with the respective utility and/or municipal agencies.
• Assistwith fee proposal preparation.
• Maintain good client relations.

Knowledge

• Able to read Architectural, Structural, Mechanical and Electrical drawings with minimal supervision.
• Able to apply prescriptive requirements of plumbing, building, and sprinkler codes.
• Experience with schematic design, equipmentselection, and 2D AutoCAD and 3D Revit.
• Basic understanding of global sustainability issues and current best practices in sustainable building design.
• Knowledge of sustainability frameworks, such as Passive House, Zero Carbon Building, LEED.
• Experience performingaccurateand detailed site surveys.
• Demonstrated ability to adapt to changing priorities and respond systematically to critical situations.

Qualifications and Experience

• 8+ years design experience in HVAC, Plumbing, and Fire Protection systemswith a specific focus on industrial/wastewater treatment facilities.
• University degree, college/technology diploma in Mechanical Engineering.
• Professional Engineer (P.Eng.)with PEO isrequired.

Additional Information
