Job summary

Imperial Oil seeks an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join our Engineering team in Edmonton. You will apply mechanical design principles, industry codes, and reliability improvement to support complex projects from concept through execution.

The role requires a hands-on engineer with strong technical acumen and field experience, capable of risk assessment, root cause analysis, and ensuring safe operations. Relocation and flexible work options may be available.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering with professional designation (P.Eng) and 5+ years of experience.
  • Knowledge of ASME Section VIII, ASME B31.3, ASME B31.1, ASME Section I, CSA B51, CSA Z662, API 510/570, API 579, and ABSA requirements.
  • Experience preparing engineering calculations, technical specifications, equipment selection, and design documentation.
  • Experience supporting projects from concept through detailed design, construction, commissioning and operational support.
  • Understanding of risk assessment, safety regulations, quality standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to work with multidisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

  • Provide mechanical engineering support to daily plant operations including modifications, upgrades, new construction and applications.
  • Review Management of Change documents and engineering specifications and design appraisals.
  • Contribute to Fitness for Service assessments.
  • Support risk management activities to ensure compliance with Operation Integrity Management System.
  • Initiate or support technology or work-practice changes to improve plant reliability.
  • Assist projects in meeting safety, environmental and capital cost objectives.
  • Develop scope of work for conceptual studies and technical specifications, and oversee contractor work.
  • Review engineering work and advise on local codes and practices.
