Position Reporting To

R&D Engineer

Role and Responsibilities

ABB Measurement & Analytics Plant in Quebec is a world leader in spectroscopy. Our contract engineering service is the largest Canadian supplier of space optical sensors used for monitoring greenhouse gases and global weather forecasting. Our plant is also recognized for developing and manufacturing products that meet diverse industrial analysis needs daily. Joining one of Quebec's largest engineering departments, you will contribute to a dynamic multidisciplinary team as a mechanical engineer within the opto-mechanical team. Your responsibilities include designing, manufacturing, and commissioning projects, with a focus on mechanical aspects.

  • Design instruments in accordance with requirements, costs, and deadlines.
  • Select and optimize manufacturing processes (CNC machining, molding, bending, 3-D printing, etc.).
  • Verify and seal plans following geometric tolerancing standards.
  • Document mechanical designs, establish tolerancing budgets, and inspection plans.
  • Supervise assembly, commissioning, and testing of prototypes.
  • Participate in design reviews and client presentations at key milestones.
  • Contribute to planning and technical proposals (estimations).
  • Support production occasionally.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering with 5-10 years of experience in complex systems development; knowledge of optical systems is an asset.
  • Understanding of materials, manufacturing processes, heat treatments, and surface treatments.
  • Knowledge of geometric tolerancing principles.
  • Experience with structural and thermal FEA (asset).
  • Experience designing aerospace instruments or for harsh environments (asset).
  • Knowledge of high-pressure equipment standards (ASME) or explosive environments (ATEX) (asset).
  • Member of the OIQ.
  • Bilingual in French and English, with strong communication skills.
