Salary Range
The salary range for this position is $87,000.00 - $101,000.00. Base pay may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
What You'll Do
Candidates should have a desire for personal and professional growth, a well-defined understanding of design and construction document processes, and adaptability for short-term and long-term projects requiring creativity and high technical skills. Successful candidates must be self-starting, motivated, innovative, articulate, self-disciplined, and confident in a demanding, fast-paced environment. Responsibilities include all phases of mechanical design production for Life Sciences, Nuclear, and National Security projects, ranging from programming through construction administration, with opportunities for facility commissioning participation.
Job Responsibilities
- Participate as part of the mechanical design team and multi-disciplinary project team, executing detailed mechanical, plumbing/process, and controls design for complex facilities including life science and nuclear projects, including:
- Detailed engineering calculations
- Production of detailed 3D models and construction drawings
- Specifications
- Reports as required
- Perform site inspections, testing, and commissioning, which may include travel within Canada and abroad.
- Use excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with clients and team members.
- Develop and maintain expertise in applicable codes and standards for nuclear and biocontainment facilities in Canada and internationally.
- Maintain proficiency in software packages including REVIT.
- Follow Merrick's Quality Assurance procedures.
- Exercise independent judgment and initiative to complete design tasks.
- Work independently and within a team, based on Merrick’s hybrid work model.
Required Qualifications
- Experience in mechanical building design for government, academic, and private clients, including HVAC, plumbing/process, fire protection, and controls design.
- Minimum of 5 years related experience, preferred 8 years.
- Licensure as a Professional Engineer in Ontario or another Canadian jurisdiction is preferred. If not licensed, must demonstrate a plan to obtain licensure within two years, holding a Mechanical Engineering degree from an accredited university.
- Experience in planning, calculations, equipment selection, schematic design, production of construction documents, and construction administration.
- Knowledge of laboratory design and construction is an asset.
- Experience in energy modeling and life cycle cost analysis is an asset.
- Proficiency in REVIT and AutoCAD.
- Strong report writing and communication skills.
- Effective problem-solving skills applying mechanical design principles.
- Ability to travel and possess a current passport, including potential international travel.
- Client projects require Canadian Citizenship.
- Work at job sites including active construction or commissioning, requiring PPE and access to elevated areas.
- Willingness to travel within Canada, the US, and overseas.
Desired Qualifications
- Ability to obtain Government of Canada Reliability Level security clearance, with Level II Secret Clearance preferred.
