Merrick and Company is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to support the mechanical design of projects as part of a multi-disciplinary team. This person will be located in our Kanata, ON office. Client projects for this position require Canadian Citizenship.

Salary range: $87,000.00 - $101,000.00, depending on experience and skills.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
We seek candidates eager for growth, with a solid understanding of design and construction document processes, and adaptable to short and long-term projects requiring creativity and high technical skills. Successful candidates will be self-starting, motivated, innovative, articulate, disciplined, and confident in a fast-paced environment. The role involves all phases of mechanical design for Life Sciences, Nuclear, and National Security projects, from programming through construction administration, with opportunities for facility commissioning participation.
Job Responsibilities
- Participate as part of the mechanical and multi-disciplinary project teams, executing detailed mechanical, plumbing/process, and controls designs for complex facilities, including:
- Engineering calculations
- 3D modeling and drawings
- Specifications and reports
- Perform site inspections, testing, and commissioning, which may require travel within Canada and internationally.
- Communicate effectively with clients and team members.
- Maintain expertise in applicable codes and standards for nuclear and biocontainment facilities in Canada and abroad.
- Develop proficiency in software such as REVIT.
- Follow Merrick’s Quality Assurance procedures.
- Exercise independent judgment and initiative.
- Work independently and as part of a team, with a hybrid of office, remote, and onsite work.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in mechanical building design for government, academic, and private clients, including HVAC, plumbing/process, fire protection, and controls.
- Minimum of 5 years, preferably 8 years, of related experience.
- Canadian Professional Engineer licensure preferred; if not licensed, must demonstrate a plan to obtain licensure within two years, with a Mechanical engineering degree from an accredited university.
- Experience in planning, calculations, equipment selection, schematic design, construction documents, and construction administration.
- Knowledge of laboratory design is an asset.
- Experience in energy modeling and lifecycle cost analysis is an asset.
- Proficiency in REVIT and AutoCAD.
- Strong report writing and communication skills.
- Ability to travel and possess a valid passport.
- Client projects require Canadian Citizenship.
- Work at job sites, including active construction or commissioning, with appropriate PPE.
- Availability for travel within Canada, the USA, and overseas.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Ability to obtain Canadian Government Reliability Level security clearance; Level II Secret preferred.
