Job summary

ALTEN Canada is seeking a senior mechanical engineer to design process skids and packaged systems for nuclear-related projects across Canada. You will generate CAD models and fabrication drawings, size equipment, and coordinate with construction and procurement teams to ensure seamless execution.

Ideal candidates have 5+ years in chemical manufacturing or similar settings, strong CAD skills, and experience working in cross-disciplinary teams. Nuclear industry exposure and P.Eng.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in chemical manufacturing, process plants, or related industrial environments.
  • Experience designing process skids and packaged process systems.
  • Proficient with SolidWorks for 3D design and detailed engineering drawings.
  • Strong understanding of equipment layout, fabrication drawings, and mechanical design practices.
  • Experience working in collaborative, multidisciplinary engineering teams with strong communication skills.
  • Nuclear industry experience is an asset.
  • P.Eng. designation is an asset.
  • Knowledge of ASME Section VIII and/or ASME Section III codes is an asset.
  • Familiarity with CSA N299 requirements is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Designing mechanical tools, systems, and process skids (e.g., filtration skids, vacuum drying systems).
  • Generating CAD models, drawings, and design packages (fabrication drawings, P&IDs, technical specifications, BOMs).
  • Performing equipment sizing and selection (pumps, tanks, motors, heat exchangers).
  • Leading interfaces with construction, procurement, and stakeholders.
  • Troubleshooting during equipment build, testing, and commissioning.

Context of the project:
  • Design and development of modular systems (process skids) for nuclear applications.
  • Projects include standalone systems like filtration skids, vacuum drying systems for refurbishment or operational support.
  • Work spans design, fabrication, testing, and potential on-site commissioning.
Day to day activities:

In accordance with our compensation practices, ALTEN is providing the salary range associated with this opportunity. Final compensation will be determined after considering several factors, including professional experience, skill set, educational background, certifications, and geographic market conditions. The current target salary range for this role is $80,000 – $110,000 per year.
