Job summary

Lakeside Process Controls Ltd. is seeking a Senior Mechanical Drafter/Designer to join our Engineered Solutions team in Mississauga. You will support mechanical design and drafting for industrial process, combustion, fuel handling, and packaged skid systems, delivering detailed drawings and documentation.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years in mechanical design/drafting and proficiency in Inventor/AutoCAD/SolidWorks, with strong attention to detail and teamwork to improve standards and efficiency.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in a Mechanical Designer, Mechanical Drafter, Piping Designer, CAD Designer, Drafting Lead, or similar technical role.

Responsibilities

  • Planning and developing mechanical system layouts for piping systems, fuel trains, hydronic systems, vessels, pumps, compressors, and packaged skid systems.
  • Producing design deliverables including Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), General Arrangement drawings, equipment layouts, and mechanical system designs.
  • Collaborating with Project Managers, Engineers, Fabrication personnel, and Suppliers to develop practical and constructible solutions.
  • Supporting field measurements and site visits as required.
  • Reviewing project requirements, specifications, and equipment information to develop accurate designs.
  • Producing detailed fabrication drawings, shop spool drawings, isometrics, Bills of Material (BOMs), material take-offs (MTOs), assembly drawings, and related documentation.
  • Preparing drawing packages for fabrication, procurement, installation, and project execution.
  • Reviewing drawing packages for accuracy, completeness, consistency, and compliance with company standards.
  • Identifying and correcting drafting errors, omissions, and documentation issues before release.
  • Maintaining design libraries, templates, standards, and CAD resources.
  • Supporting continuous improvement initiatives related to drafting standards, workflows, and software tools.
  • Supporting fabrication, assembly, installation, and commissioning activities by addressing technical and drafting-related issues.
  • Communicating project progress, schedules, and technical concerns with project stakeholders.
  • Maintaining project documentation through issued-for-review, issued-for-construction, and as-built phases.
  • Providing mentorship and technical guidance to junior drafting and design personnel where appropriate.

Who We Are Looking For

We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Drafter / Designer to join our Engineered Solutions team.

The ideal candidate may come from either a Mechanical Designer or Senior Mechanical Drafter background. We are open to candidates with strengths in detailed drafting, mechanical design, fabrication documentation, or a combination of these disciplines.

This role will support the design and execution of industrial process, combustion, fuel handling, and packaged system projects while helping improve drawing quality, drafting standards, and overall team efficiency.

What You Will Be Doing
Mechanical Design Responsibilities

Knowledge and Skills Required
Education
  • Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology, or CAD/CADD Drafting & Design Technology
Experience
  • 5+ years of experience in a Mechanical Designer, Mechanical Drafter, Piping Designer, CAD Designer, Drafting Lead, or similar technical role.
  • Experience developing fabrication drawings, isometrics, spool drawings, P&IDs, General Arrangement drawings, and Bills of Material.
  • Experience working with industrial piping systems, process equipment, fabricated assemblies, or packaged skid systems.
  • Experience supporting fabrication, installation, or construction activities is considered an asset.
Technical Skills
  • Proficiency with Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD, AutoCAD Plant 3D, SolidWorks, or similar CAD software.
  • Understanding of drafting standards, dimensioning practices, piping systems, materials, fabrication methods, and mechanical design principles.
  • Ability to interpret piping material specifications, equipment drawings, cutsheets, and engineering documentation.
  • Familiarity with applicable industry codes and standards such as ASME B31.1, ASME B31.3, CSA B149, CSA B139, CSA Z662, or similar standards.
