Job summary

Thermon is seeking a Mechanical Designer in Oakville, Ontario, reporting to the Engineering Lead. You will perform, review, and oversee the mechanical design and detail engineering of equipment and packaged systems for industrial heating and filtration applications.

Candidates should have a mechanical engineering degree and be eligible for Ontario P.Eng, with 0–10 years of relevant experience. Proficiency with AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or PDMS is required, along with a strong grasp of ISO and ASME

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary degree in mechanical engineering.
  • Professional engineer in Ontario or eligible.
  • 0–10 years of relevant industrial experience.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and/or PDMS.
  • Knowledge of ISO and ASME standards; pressure vessel fabrication is preferred.
  • Familiarity with Autodesk Vault is an asset; COMPASS and MathCAD are assets.

Responsibilities

  • Review technical specifications, prepare and manage design packages – vendor document list, design drawings, design reports, welding procedures, and other technical documentation.
  • Review and interpret project specifications, engineering codes, and standards to ensure compliance during all phases of the design and manufacturing process.
  • Prepare material lists (BOM), specification sheets, and detail manufacturing drawings.
  • Prepare and/or review pressure vessel design reports and other required calculations.
  • Provide engineering and technical support to various stakeholders in a timely manner.
  • Work closely with production, welding, and quality assurance teams to ensure that designs are accurately implemented and meet quality and safety standards.
  • Participate in design review meetings and provide feedback between production and engineering for manufacturability of design.
  • Follow all Thermon's quality procedures.
  • Maintain computer data files and document records.

The Role

Report to the Engineering Lead, the Mechanical Designer is responsible for performing, reviewing, and/or overseeing
the design and detail engineering of mechanical equipment and packaged systems related to industrial heating and
filtration equipment. Candidate with process design experiences is an asset. Background with electrical and control
system is an asset but not required.


Primary Duties

Education and Qualifications


  • Post-secondary degree in mechanical engineering. Other discipline but with related work experience will be considered;

  • Licensed professional engineer in Ontario or eligible and working towards one;

  • 0-10 years of relevant industrial experiences;

  • Proficient with design tools and software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and/or PDMS.

  • Strong understanding in general engineering / manufacturing practices and standards, such as ISO, ASME;

  • Knowledge of materials properties, welding techniques, and fabrication processes for pressure vessel manufacturing is preferred;

  • Working knowledge and experience with ASME BPVC, particularly Section VIII Div.1 is preferred;

  • Working knowledge with Autodesk Vault is an asset;

  • Working knowledge with COMPRESS and MathCAD is an asset.

  • Familiarity with Excel, and other Microsoft Office applications.
