AVL Manufacturing, based in Hamilton, Ontario, seeks a Mechanical Designer to deliver full cycle mechanical designs for Genset enclosures, fuel tanks, and custom products. The role requires SolidWorks CAD expertise, FE analysis, and collaboration across mechanical, electrical, and process teams.

Candidates should have 5+ years in mechanical design within fabrication/assembly settings, strong attention to detail, and the ability to travel in North America.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of mechanical design experience in fabrication/assembly environments.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to produce accurate structural analyses and reports.
  • Experience with electromechanical systems and wiring schematics is required.

Responsibilities

  • Create full cycle mechanical designs and drawings from concept to finished product.
  • Design sheet metal, welded assemblies, and complex assemblies using SolidWorks.
  • Collaborate with process, applications, and electrical teams to integrate power and mechanical systems.
  • Perform testing, load ratings, and FE analyses; provide customer design support and internal shop floor guidance.
  • Estimate material requirements and manage BOMs; juggle multiple projects with deadlines.

Salary Range: $75,000.00 To $105,000.00 Annually

Job Summary:

The Mechanical Designer’s primary function is to provide full cycle mechanical designs and drawings from concept to completed product for Genset Enclosures, Fuel Tanks, Modified Containers and other custom products.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Create and design for manufacturability sheet metal, welding, and complex assemblies using SolidWorks.
  • Work with other engineering disciplines (i.e. process, applications, and electrical) to create designs that integrate power, electromechanical, and mechanical systems and that factor in environmental conditions for end users.
  • Research and analyze customer design proposals, specifications, manuals, and other data to evaluate the feasibility, cost, and maintenance requirements of designs and applications.
  • Provide testing, load ratings, and detailed structural analysis using finite element (FEA).
  • Provide external technical support to new and existing customers through field visits, customer meetings, and design reviews.
  • Provide internal technical support to the shop floor including interpretation of internal and customer drawings and specifications.
  • Manage multiple projects with short‑term and competing deadlines at any given time.
  • Estimating, including material selection and Bill of Material (BOM) creation.
Qualifications & Requirements:
  • College Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology or University degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • 5+ years of Mechanical Engineering and design experience in a fabrication and assembly work environment. Must be able to demonstrate attention to detail and provide accuracy in structural analysis, fluid flow calculations, and engineering report preparation.
  • Demonstrated experience with SolidWorks CAD software is mandatory. Advance knowledge of sheet metal modeling, welded assemblies, welding symbols, pipe and conduit routing. Knowledge of SolidWorks FEA module is a plus.
  • Experience working with Electromechanical systems requiring deep knowledge of how components interact, wiring schematics, and control strategies.
  • Knowledge of hydraulics and cooling systems, standard fittings, component fastening, and hardware.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and the ability to travel primarily in North America but potentially abroad
  • P.Eng Designation an asset.
