Job summary

We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Designer to join our Peterborough-based team, contributing to a wide range of industrial and manufacturing projects. You will design machine guarding, mechanical structures, pipework, and factory layouts while ensuring compliance with standards.

You will produce detailed 3D models using AutoCAD Inventor and collaborate with engineers, project managers, and clients to deliver practical, compliant designs.

Qualifications

• Mechanical engineering qualification such as BTEC, NVQ Level 3, HNC, HND, or equivalent.
• Strong understanding of mechanical design principles and engineering best practices.
• Experience using AutoCAD, AutoCAD Vault, and AutoCAD Inventor.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Ability to interpret and produce detailed engineering drawings and technical documentation.
• Experience revising and modifying existing designs while maintaining drawing control standards.
• Strong organisational and analytical skills with excellent attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Excellent communication skills with the confidence to engage with clients and stakeholders at all levels.

Responsibilities

• Carry out site surveys of new and existing pipework systems and produce accurate documentation.
• Design and develop machine guarding solutions that are practical, robust, and compliant with relevant safety standards.
• Produce detailed 3D models for factory layouts, process skids, and mechanical installations using AutoCAD Inventor.
• Create accurate factory layout plans and engineering drawings.
• Modify and update existing designs to meet current legislation, customer requirements, and operational improvements.
• Prepare supporting technical documentation, including design calculations, drawing packages, and project records.
• Maintain drawing control procedures and ensure all documentation is completed to company and client standards.
• Liaise effectively with clients, project managers, engineers, and production teams throughout the design process.
• Support machinery upgrades and improvement projects within industrial manufacturing environments.
• Promote safe working practices and demonstrate a proactive approach to health, safety, and quality at all times.
