Job summary

OpTalent is partnering with an established manufacturer in Cambridge to recruit a Mechanical Design Engineer for its R&D team. The role offers hands-on involvement from concept through production, including prototyping, testing and validation.

Key responsibilities include leading development projects, creating mechanical/electromechanical designs in SolidWorks, applying FEA and DFM/FMEA practices, and supporting product launches. On-site gym and social events are among the perks.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics or Robotics Engineering or a related discipline.
• 5+ years of mechanical or electromechanical product design and development experience.
• Demonstrated experience leading or making a significant technical contribution to a commercial product development project, from design through testing and validation.
• Strong SolidWorks and FEA experience, with knowledge of DFM, FMEA, tolerance stack-ups, BOMs and engineering documentation.
• Strong problem-solving and project management skills, with the ability to take ownership of deliverables and work across teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead product development projects from concept and detailed design through prototyping, testing, validation and production.
• Develop mechanical and electromechanical designs using SolidWorks, including 3D models, drawings and engineering documentation.
• Apply FEA and engineering principles to assess structural integrity, performance and safety.
• Develop and execute prototype test plans, resolve design issues and support product validation.
• Apply DFM, FMEA, tolerances stack-up analysis and BOM development to improve manufacturability, quality and cost.
• Collaborate with engineering and manufacturing teams to solve technical challenges, support product launches and improve existing designs.
